rom children’s novels
to the classics, there’s
something for every reader
at Little City Books,
Hoboken’s newest bookstore that opened last May.
“We thought Hoboken needed a new
bookshop with both up-to-date and
well-curated classic inventory,” says Kate
Jacobs, who owns the shop along with
Donna Garban and Emmanuelle Morgen.
Jacobs and Garban have been friends
for years and were introduced to Morgen
through a mutual contact. “We all love
books and consider bookstores to be
great community gathering places and
cultural centers, [which] also enhance
our city,” says Jacobs.
As longtime Hoboken residents,
opening a bookshop near home was a
natural choice for the three. “We’re in
Hoboken because we’ve lived in
Hoboken for many years, raised children
here, made lifelong friends and we love
it,” Jacobs says. “The scale and location
of Hoboken give it a small-town vibe
with big-city opportunities.”
The inventory of books at the shop is
always evolving, but some of the deepest
sections in the shop are fiction, young
adult, history, sci-fi/fantasy and picture
books. Customers who request books
that aren’t in stock may place special
orders, which are typically filled within
a couple of days.
Little City Books won the Hoboken
Chamber of Commerce’s “Best New
Business of 2015” award and is reinforcing it’s roots in the city. The store holds
events such as book fairs and read-athons to benefit local schools, as well
as teen-mentoring programs.
