Arts and Entertainment Graffiti Mecca Street art colors Jersey City building B WRITTEN BY LAURA ADAMS STIANSEN PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEREMY SMITH efore its demolition, the Pep Boys Auto Center on Luis Munoz Boulevard in Jersey City was covered in a rare collection of graffiti and street art created by area artists. Jersey City’s Gregory Edgell and his production company, Green Villain, began transforming the side of the building that faces the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail after receiving permission from Pep Boys. When Edgell found out the building was to be demolished, the property’s developers, Forest City Enterprises and G&S Investors, gave access to the entire building – inside and out – covering 30,000 square feet and allowed artists to continue creating artwork. 110 FALL 2015 (201) GOLD COAST More th
