Sesame Workshop expands commitment to autistic children and their families

Sesame Workshop , the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street , launched a rich new phase of the autism initiative , SESAME STREET AND AUTISM : SEE AMAZING IN ALL CHILDREN , welcoming Julia , a Muppet with autism , to the broadcast and signaling a strong , continuing commitment to the autism community . Julia , introduced last year in digital form , comes to life as aMuppet in addition to a broad release of resources designed to serve autistic children and their families and increase awareness and understanding of autism . New digital videos , books and ebooks add to the See Amazing library , with the collection available in both English and Spanish . “ Bringing Julia to life as a Sesame Street Muppet is the centerpiece of all of our new materials to support families of children with autism ,” Sherrie Westin , EVP of Global Impact and Philanthropy , Sesame Workshop , says . “ The response from the autism community to See Amazing in All Children has been extraordinary , and we are committed to continuing our efforts to promote understanding and acceptance of autism , as part of our mission of helping all children grow smarter , stronger and kinder .”

Kindness mattersat the Academy of the Holy Angels

Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest recognizes one student in each grade for encouraging , supporting and inspiring others with the SISTER CATHERINE GREEN KINDNESS AWARD . Kayla Pringle , Samantha Romano , Jaya Sharma and Demitria “ Demi ” Poulos were recent recipients . Any member of the school community may nominate a student who demonstrates an inspirational spirit of kindness .
Pringle , a Suffern , N . Y . resident , was honored by her peers for acts of kindness that included lending a hand to another student who was having issues with other friendships . Romano , an Old Tappan resident , was recognized for her willingness to go out of her way for others . Sharma , a River Vale resident , is known for her ready smile and willingness to help others . Poulos , an Englewood resident , was described as asweet , genuine and positive person .

Middle school studentawarded for videogame design

ETHAN BUNAGAN , 13 , won second place in the Kids as Video Game Makers 2017 Competition . Bunagan is in sixth grader at Eric Smith Middle School in Ramsey . The national contest lets kids ages 5to14use the Bloxels Builder app to create avideo game and design agame box . The participants were able to build , test and share their games . The group of judges included Andy Russell of Google , Bert Rueler of Mattel , John Eternal of PlayStation , Ryan Harwell of Cartoon Network and Debra Sterling of GoldieBlox .
