SELLEBRATION SALE FIGURES PROMINENTLY IN YEARLING MARKET The first annual Sellebration Sale of Yearlings was held September 5 and 6, at the new sale grounds just north of Shelbyville, Tennessee. Owners C. A. Bobo and C. M. Waters, Jr. were very pleased with this first sale as they had fine crowds and enthusiastic buyers both days. This sale figures prominently in the future of the yearling market, as it will become the best outlet for young horses by stallions that are not backed by private auctions. For several weeks before the sale, crews were work ing overtime to complete the facilities for the sale. Permanent stabling facilities for over sixty horses were constructed on the sale site and a fine sales pav ilion with seating for over five hundred people was finished just days before the sale. Auctioneer Carl Garner, famous for his activities at the popular Tattersalls Gaited and Thoroughbred Auc tions in Louisville, Kentucky, was the "seller,” and popular Bill Carrington of Shelbyville filled in as pedi gree man and announcer. The sale got off to a good start right on time despite bad weather. The rains created a parking problem as there was a lot of fresh dirt in the area; however, most people managed to get in and out with little trouble. After about an hour of active bidding, a short in the electrical system halted the proceedings until a sound truck could be brought to the sales pavilion. Not much time was lost, and all the buyers remained on the site.
