Including Stake, JOHN YOUNG AND SON STABLES We recently received a note from John Young Sta bles in Resaca, Georgia, informing us of a barn party on Friday evening, March 28. John took over the op eration of this fine stable last year and did well on his own. It is the former Chitwood Stables where Bu ford Chitwood keeps his three-times World Grand Champion, TALK OF THE TOWN. The Chitwoods still have horses in training here and young Hank Chitwood will probably be going strong again this year in Amateur Classes. John is working a barn full of horses and will prob ably put on white a show for his barn party. He sends an open invitation to all Walking Horse lovers in the area to come see them and promises plenty of barbe cued chicken and some liquid refreshments. When asked how long the party would last, he said, "Come at seven and stay with 'Johnny 'til Midnight’.” A little humor there! TARKINGTON STABLES Tarkington Stables, Cotton Plant, Arkansas, has been experiencing growing pains. Erected in 1966 with fif teen stalls, the stable has now expanded to twenty-six stalls, with all necessary facilities. In training under the expert handling of Jackie Gardner are horses from some of the leading blood lines of the Tennessee Walking Horse, including ROD GERS PERFECTION, CARBON COPY, MIDNIGHT SUN, MIDNIGHT MACK K, MACK K’S HANDSHAK ER, EBONY MASTERPIEC E,and GO BOY’S SHADOW. Brucene Tarkington, with her mare HANDSHAK ER’S LADY K, has captured many blues. Her latest triumph was first place in the juvenile class at Fort Worth. Look for this horse and this young lady on the Mid-South circuit this season. Among the young horses showing great promise are a two-year-old filly, EBONY’S GLORY GAL, owned by Jake Crow; and two two-year-old stallions, SUN’S ROCKET GO BOY, owned by Fred Stewart, and KING OF THE ROAD, owned by Jack Oliver. Two three-year-old stallions in training are COPY’S MID NIGHT SUN for owner Fred Stewart and MACK K’S COMET for owner Jake Crow. All these fine horses are being readied for the first show of the season at Searcy, Arkansas. Another fine MACK K horse in training is a four- year-old stallion, MACK K’S ECHO, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Chastain. C. L. Frates will be showing his mare, PERFECTION’S MISS OPERATOR. World Champion Gelding in 1967, SUN’S BIG JOHN, puts on a good show under the skilled horsemanship of March, 1969 Amateur, Juvenile and Line - Bred Brood Mares and Colts. Six (6) Two-Year-Olds by SUN’S DELIGHT, SPIRIT OF MIDNIGHT, MIDNIGHT DUKE, MERRY GO BOY, TRIPLE THREAT and MIDNIGHT BEAU.
