SOCIETY SHOWBOY CAPTURES STAKE AS BEST IN THE WEST" GO TO POMONA tv*;: CM°?* th Annual MS Benefit H.® o WiSSr FairSroar‘^S CaKora* 16.1969 On Friday, May 16, Pomona became the temporary "Walking Horse Capital of the World” as enthusiasts of the breed converged on the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds for the Seventh Annual California Walk­ ing Horse Celebration. With three days of jam-packed activity encompassing seventy-one classes and 475 horses, it turned out to be one of the most exciting and successful shows featuring our breed on the West Coast. The Honorable Bob Hughes from Jackson, Mississippi was selected from a list of top prospects to be the 1969 Judge of Tennessee Walking Horses. He was ac­ companied in his task by the Honorable Herbert Mc­ Lain of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who judged the other classes. Together they formed a most popular team. Malcolm Rossoll was again the announcer who kept the show moving at a fast pace for the whole perform­ ance. Under the management of Harold Dakan, the 7th Annual was the best ever for the West Coast. Following the procedure approved by the American Horse Shows Association, all entries for this show were checked in a warm-up ring prior to being shown. Again this year the steward was Sandy Sanders who, in our opinion, is certainly not a friend of the Walking Horse. He and Dr. William Ommert, who was "doing as he was instructed,” succeeded in sending a lot of apparently clean horses back to the barn. On Sunday
