SENSATIONAL SHADOW CAPTURES STAKE IT TENNESSEE STATE SHOW NASHVILLE STATE CHAMPION - From and cen ter is Wallace Brandon on SENSATIONAL SHADOW taking the state honors at the Tennessee State Horse Show in Nashville. I he Tennessee State Horse Show was held in Nashville in the middle of a heat wave that left both horses and riders limp. The six-day show, which featured seventeen Walking Horse classes out of one hundred and one events, was held at the El lington Agricultural Center, one of the finest horse show arenas in the country. It lasted from June 23 until June 28, with Paul Smith of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia tying Walking Horses. Gene Adams was originally slated to judge, but illness in his family prevented his working the show at the last moment. Mr. Smith turned in his usual fine job and little criticism was heard. It was noticed that he purposely worked the classes quickly and with determination as the heat reached the high nineties almost every day and made a peak performance by anyone almost im possible. The "Nashville Sound" included a new tune played by SENSATIONAL SHADOW with Wallace Brandon rid ing for Roy and Bonnie Davis. The big-lick black stallion made a strong bid in both the class and the stake to take top honors. He is well known for his amazing natural ability and is gathering a great following as we head down the stretch toward the Celebration. 14 Hitting a few highlights of the show, we would like to point out a few of the best at. Nashville. Outstanding in his class was HANDSHAKER’S DELIGHT, the big stallion being shown by Donald Paschal in Junior competition this year. Donald is rid ing him for Dr. and Mrs. Claude Sex ton and has high hopes of going to the top with him this year. Donald made it three blues for the week as he also won the Mare Class with TRIPLE TREAT and the Three-Year- Old Mare Class onCOPY’SDANCER. C. A. Bobo came on strong to take the Aged Gelding Class on WILD TURKEY but elected not to show him back in the stake. Another Bobo- trained horse took a blue as Charles Warren topped the Men’s Amateur Class with EBONY ROSE. It was no surprise when Sam Cald well took top honors in the Three- Year-Old Stallion & Gelding Class with his much-applauded DELIGHT CAN DO. Young Sam came a long way from Marshall, Texas to prove that his horse really "can do.” Re serve in this class was another top three-year-old named CALL OFTHE WILD, ridden by C. A. Bobo. Karen Cashion made it two in a row on her fine mare, GO BOY’S LADY ANN, as she won both the Ladies Class and the Amateur Stake. This top team just keeps getting bet ter and better as the year rolls by. Another horse that surprised a lot of people was THE SUPER SPORT, ridden by Emmy Downes to win the Owner-Amateur Class. He is now trained by Billy Ray Parrish and Voice of the Tennessee Walking Horse
