RUSSELL PATE STABLES Russell Pate has been bragging about his barn to us for months, so we decided to stop by and see it. Well, everything he says it true, as he has combined a com fortable barn with the workability necessary to pro duce top horses. The barn has 28 stalls and they are full, with Rus sell working 24 head of show stock. Included are eight two-year-olds with a PERFECTION filly causing the most excitement to date. Russell also showed us a two-year-old B. MAJOR WILSON colt that looks like he could turn out to be a top horse. The colt is owned by that well-known Virginia gentleman, E. Carl Hengen. The four-year-old black mare, SILHOUETTE’S SUE, is coming along fine. This mare is a half-sister to GO BOY’S HURRICANE and is owned by Frank Parnell. Mr. Parnell is the co-owner of a three-year-old SUN’S DELIGHT colt that looks real good. Porter Norman is a co-owner with Parnell on this horse. Bill Tomlinson’s MASTER COPY, by CARBON COPY, is doing real well, as is Billy Hale’s two-year-old full brother to EBONY’S OLD CROW. (Continued from page 23) BUD SEATON STABLES Nestled in the rolling hills around Milton, Tennessee is a new stable that is causing a lot of excitement. Bud Seaton and wife Mina completed construction of their stable just a few weeks after the Celebration and already have it jam-packed with impressive stock. Bud has a coming-two-year-old stud, MACK K’S FIRECRACKER, that he co-owns with Mr. and Mrs. C. Ray Carter of Lynchburg, Va. This colt is showing very favorable signs of making a great horse. Three- year-olds will be in the spotlight as Bud hits the ring with SUN’S SOCIETY MAID, a black mare owned by J. Mac Carter of Murfreesboro, and MACK K’S JET, a sorrel gelding owned by Lowe, Stites and Reeves, Cookeville. Heading the amateur classes is MY EBONY, a four- year-old black stud that can really get down and get the job done. He is owned by Mr. and xMrs. C. Ray Carter, and will be showm by Mrs. Carter. MAGIC ACE, a five-year-old black gelding, is owned by Mrs. Janie Beech, who will show' him in the Ladies Classes. Bud will also be presenting EBONY’S DOLLY to the four-year-old classes. This mare, owned by Billy Hale, can set back and show' you what a Walking Horse is supposed to do. BRONZE MASTERPIECE, a beautiful Walking Pony that Kenny Hale show-ed very success fully last season, will return again this season with Bud as the advisor. 26 DAVIS & SUGGS STABLES Right at the southern end of C-hickamauga Battle field, Don Davis and Bobby Suggs have been operat ing a training stable since last fall. They are riding about sixteen horses at present and are planning on entering the showring at the first of the season in the North Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama area with some good stock. Chickamauga, Georgia is a very convenient location to all these states. BLACK BOMBER, the amateur horse that W. L. Brow'n of Signal Mountain, Tennessee did so well with the last few years, is now owned by Don and Bobby, and will be headed for stake classes this year. In the aged mare classes they will also be showing a familiar name around this area - PENNY POKER, owmed by Ernest Crane, Rossville, Georgia. They have a real nice black tw'o-year-old filly for Carlos Brown, Chicka mauga. She’s by MACK K and should really be ready this spring. In Amateur classes, Louise Copeland of Chattanooga will be showing MIRACLE DIAMOND, her liver chest nut stallion, and in Walking Pony Classes Peggy Ed wards of Chattanooga will be showing her chestnut pony. NEIL ROBINSON STABLES Our annual visit to the GLL Barn Party provided us with the opportunity to visit with the popular young trainer, Neil Robinson, in Collierville, Tennessee. Neil is running his own barn and reports that things are going well. Neil pointed out that a trainer needs both good horses and good owners, and he has plenty of both. Unfortunately there were not too many of his cus tomers around when w'e stopped by on a cold and rainy morning, but he did show us some of his good VIC THOMPSON STABLES SHELBYVILLE, TENNESSEE PHONE: 615/294-2911 FOR SALE FIVE-YEAR-OLD BLUE ROAN MARE.
