DELIGHTS PERFECTION was just that as he won top honors in the class for Walking Horses 15.2 Hands and Under. Marvin Wilson was riding for Senator Eugene Holley of Augusta, Georgia. DOUBLE DELIGHT 00, the highly-touted World Champion Two-Year-Old of 1967, showed great poten tial as he won his first major blue under the guidance of Steve Hill. Now a junior horse, he is owned by Clark and Lowe. These are just a few of the many top horses that performed at the Dixie Jubilee. Com plete results are listed elsewhere in this issue. The overall list of blue-ribbon winners brings to mind some of the most highly regarded Tennessee Walking Horses of this and past seasons. Any time you have horses such as INVASION’S PERSUASION, DELIGHT’S ROCK & ROLL, STING RAY, BLACK SOUTHERN AIRE, SUN’S DELIGHT HONEY, DAN’S GO BOY and LADY GODIVA in your horse show, you’ve done something. All of these horses added sig- nificantly to the 1969 Dixie Jubilee as they showed the best that our breed has to offer. EBONY’S SENATOR IS RETIRED AT DIXIE JUBILEE An extra added attraction at the 1969 Dixie Jubilee Horse Show was the official retirement of EBONY’S SENATOR, the 1969 World Grand Champion Tennes see Walking Horse. Ridden by his trainer, Marvin Wil son, for Vic Thompson Stables, Shelbyville, Tennessee, the big black stallion made a great final effort to thrill a large stake-night crowd at the Baton Rouge annual classic. As announcer O’Neil Howell read the retirement ceremony, in which the life of this great horse unfold ed, trainer Wilson carried his mount through his final workout. He worked to perfection and was flawless in the execution of his gaits. On the reverse Mr. Wilson was called on to put his horse through "just one more running walk” in which he showed the brilliance of his ability in this crowd-pleasing gait. Owners Mr. and Mrs. O. D. "Peck” Carlton of Albany, Georgia were LAST AWARD — Mr. and Mrs. O. D. "Peck-’ Carlton receive special awards from C. W Kennedy, manager of the Dixie Jubilee, on the retirement of EBONY'S SENATOR. These represent the last awards that their 1969 World Grand Champion will ever receive for a saddle-class performance. December, 1969 PROUD MOMENT — Old Glory flies high as Marvin Wilson carries the flag during opening ceremonies of the 1969 Dixie Jubilee. This must have been a proud moment for Mr. Wilson on hand for the retirement and thoroughly enjoyed the event. EBONY’S SENATOR will stand the 1970 season at the Stallion Stables in Shelbyville, Tennessee, and all indications are that he will be one of the most popular World Champions ever to stand at stud. Throughout his showring career he has been known for his unique natural ability. He stands almost sixteen hands and has the black color that is in demand these days. His pedigree, which features an excellent blend of top blood, lends itself well to the popular lines of the day and is also an asset to his breeding potential. Bv EBONY MASTERPIECE and out of GO BOY’S MER RY BIRD, our new champion should make a definite contribution to the breed. "THE SENATOR” THROWS A PARTY AT THE DIXIE JUBILEE When local dignitaries heard that "the Senator" was throwing a party at the Prince Murat Inn, it is no HOSTE SS WITH THE MOSTEST - Marilyn Thompson talks with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Lackey as Peck Carlton entertains Mrs. Jack Moorman and Mrs. Jimmy Holloway. 47
