Then the campaign began in earnest, and what a campaign it was! MODERATOR earned the nickname ‘the Iron Horse of West Virginia’ by showing 32 times in 17 weeks. With Mr. Gibson in the saddle he tied in the first three places 22 times. He won more ribbons than any previous state champion — more blue ribbons than any other champion. The season was climaxed in November when, at the awards presentation dinner, MR. MODERATOR and Don Gibson received an outstanding ovation when they were awarded the championship trophy. KBNG HORSE NAMED MR. MODERATOR (and the W. Va. State Championship).
