MUSSELWHITE STABLES
Celebration Bound !
Three of the nicest fellows in the Middle Tennessee area are working for H . S . Musselwhite , Jr ., in Shelbyville . Sam and Frank Witherspoon are the trainers and Charles Witherspoon is the manager , and these three brothers operate the facility for Mr . Musselwhite , who is from Maitland , Florida . They are taking good brood mares and breeding them to the top studs in Tennessee , and from the colts they pick five or six
select prospects and break and train them for the showring . They do not put the emphasis on showing , but on selling this stock to other trainers that will take them on their showring career . Last year they sold just such a two-year-old , DELIGHT ’ S CAN DO . Trainer Sam Caldwell took this colt to Texas and has done a lot of winning with him . During the Celebration this year , Sam and CAN DO will be stabled out at Musselwhite Stables .
All the stock is owned by Mr . Musselwhite , and they have several top two-year-olds this season . HAWK ’ S IMAGE is a bay stalhon that Frank is very pleased
with . A really pretty " fancy dan ,” MAID ’ S FLYING ACE is a blue roan with perfect black markings . CLOUD NINE ( by FLYING CLOUD ) and DELIGHTS GOLD MINE ( by SUN ’ S DELIGHT ) are two more they would like for you to come by and see during the Celebration .
PREACH FLEMING STABLES
Preach Fleming brought some of R . D . Keene ’ s horses from Florida a few weeks ago to make some of
the Middle Tennessee shows , and will be stabled at J ack Montgomery Stables until after the Celebration . He made six shows in Middle Tennessee and won six blues . Pretty good record ! Making the tr . ek from Florida were the undefeated two-year-old gelding SHAD OW ’ S DELIGHT ; the three-year-old stallion , SUNDUST JAMBOREE , that won the Florida Circuit this year ; and a two-year-old filly that won the Murfreesboro show recently , MARK ’ S SUMMER DREAM .
L . FRANK ROPER STABLES
Another Florida trainer stabled at Jack Montgomery ; Stables in Shelbyville is Shorty Thomas , who has L . Frank Roper ’ s horses . He seems to have been making many shows recently including Louisville , Ky . and the Chattahoochee Horse Show in Atlanta , Ga . Mr . Roper won the Chattahoochee Amateur Stake and tied second in the Louisville Amateur Class and Stake on his mare , SUN ’ S ANGEL . Shorty has been showing SHA DOW AT MIDNIGHT and tied reserve in Louisville . They plan to stay through the Celebration at Jack ’ s spacious stables .
