Down at the Billy Brantley Sta­ bles in Theodore, Alabama, there is a lot of activity. The team of Lynn Doughty and SETTING SUN’S AP­ OLLO are back at work after a long winter. Lynn and APOLLO finished the season last year by winning the Southern Championship at Montgom­ ery. Lynn also will be showing the full sister to APOLLO named APO LYN in mare classes this year. Billy will be showing a lot of young horses this season. In four-year-old classes he will be showing a colt by MACK K’S HANDSHAKER named HANSHAKER'S HANDYMAN own­ ed by Slocum & Doughty. Bill has a good string of amateur riders includ­ ing Corky Ollinger on GO BOY’S DIPLOMAT, Tommy Doughty on MYSTIC TIMES, and Vance Slocum on BALLY HOO’S APOLLO. It looks like a banner year for the Billy Brantley Stables. In Orrville, trainer Jimmy Ellis is in the process of building a new barn. It will be two hundred feet long and will contain all the modern facilities. Jimmy says he will train mostly young horses this year. He has two two-3-ear-old fillies for Lloyd Wood of Tuscaloosa. In three-year-old classes he will be showing EBONY’S MAS­ TER COPY for W. R. Mitchell of Mobile and HANDSHAKERS RED ACE for Mrs. Lyman Phillips, Jr. of Brewton. In aged mare classes he will show GO BOY’S CADILLAC JEWEL for Ellis Farms, Orrville. In the three-year-old mare classes it will be CLOWNS FAIR LADY for Ellis Farms. In the stake classes he will have MR. FREE WHEEL. Jimmy and FREE WHEEL completed a success­ ful season by winning the Junior Championship at Montgomery.
