EAST TENNESSEE NEWS Carolyn and Skip Stansberry The good weather in East Tennessee has been at a minimum, but by the time this goes to press we should be having good weather and some warm days. I took a trip to New Tazewell, Tennessee to see Bill Gibson, an awfully nice young trainer, and it was worth every minute. Bill is working ten nice horses. He brought out a pretty two-year-old stud colt owned by June Poteet and Winford French. His name is MACK K’S FIRECRACKER and he is a busy little colt showing lots of potential. Ernie Widener has a real nice two-year-old bay stud colt in training. A. J. Rohan of Washington, D.C. has a nice sorrel two-year-old stud colt by SOCIETY MACK K in training with Bill. These colts should do real well this season. For the three-year-old classes, Bill has a sorrel mare by INVASION owned by Ernie Widener, as well as a black three-year-old stud by MIDNIGHT SPORTS MAN that belongs to Rohan & Hamblen. A four-year- old bay stud owned by Bill Lampkin of Morristown should do well in the shows this year. Also in the four-year-old classes Bill will be showing a black mare owned by Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Seward of Harrogate. In the age classes, Bill has a chestnut stud owned by Ralph and Tommy Cooter of Baileyton, Tenn. He also has SUN’S DIXIE DARLING, owned by Junior Venable of New Tazewell. Billy has really been suc cessful on this good mare by SUN DUST. Junior took us out to see a full brother to her and he was really worth going to see. Bill will put him under saddle this fall and, from the way he looks, he might just be better than his sister. Bill has another age stud he will be showing this year: a roan owned by J. V. Couch of Gate City, Va. This horse should make the people sit up and take another look. He has a lot of flat walk and when they say come up, he will be right up front. Bill has some good stock, so if you are up near New Tazewell, stop in and see them. CHATTAHOOCHEE CHARITY HORSE SHOW SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 19-20-21 IN ATLANTA Every effort has been made to make the 1968 ver sion of the annual Chattahoochee Charity Horse Show a success from the standpoint of Walking Horse ex hibitors. The show is scheduled for June 19-23 with May, 1968 Walking Horse classes being scheduled for the first three days. The Walking Horse stake will be held Friday night, June 21, to allow exhibitors to attend other shows of their choice on Saturday night. It ap pears that this extra effort will be beneficial as a considerable number of trainers and exhibitors have expressed an interest in the show. Sponsored by the Chattahoochee Plantation Club, this show will feature a well-balanced schedule of Walking Horse classes for the Hon. C. A. Bobo of Shelbyville, Tennessee to judge. Mr. Bobo comes well recommended as a qualified judge and is a card- carrying official as well as a member of the profes sional Walking Horse Trainers Association. This show looms as the "big” Walking Horse Show of the mid season in Georgia and exhibitors from several states can be expected. The facilities are fine and the hospi tality great. Chattahoochee is a suburb of Atlanta and is readily accessible to individuals coming into the area from almost any direction. Extra effort is being made to promote the Tennessee Walking Horse as part of this show and on Monday, June 17, Mr. David Howard, Associate Editor of the VOICE Publishing Company, is scheduled to appear on the Ruth Kent Show on WSB-TV in Atlanta with a film presentation of our breed in the showring. Anyone wishing information on this show should con tact Mrs. Mary Noble, 45 River Court Parkway NW, Sandy Springs, Georgia. JIMMY HOLLOWAY SENDS MARCH "OUT LIKE A LION” WITH ROARING GOOD SALE IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI Jimmy Holloway’s Sixth Annual Sale at the Jackson Fairgrounds in Jackson, Mississippi attracted buyers from many states and continued the trend of excellent sales by Jimmy and his organization.
