MID-WEST STABLE TALK by William Kuehl Mary Lynn Stables — Grafton , Wisconsin
Just north of Milwaukee in the town of Grafton are the stables of Mary Lynn Treis . Mary Lynn is a very warm and friendly hostess in addition to being one o Wisconsin ’ s very fine Walking Horse and Saddlebie trainers . The stables encompass 68 picturesque acres and are kept in immaculate condition . The main stables have twenty-four filled stalls bursting with some fine-looking horseflesh . There is an indoor arena foi those colder days that measures 200 x 40 feet , ihe outdoor ring is of a very good 100 x 250 foot size .
Mary Lynn was gracious enough to work some of her top horses for me . DICTATOR AGAIN , owned by Harold Schwengel , put on a very good show for me and I found out that he is for sale . This horse was the Illinois Reserve Champion the last three years and Wisconsin Reserve Champion the last two years . COLONEL PAT , owned by Mr . Schwengel also , walked up quite a storm in the arena . He was the 1965 Wisconsin Junior Champion and is set to take on all comers again . ELDORADO BOY , owned by Permanent Construction Company , put on quite a show also . This horse was shown only once last year because of his late arrival from Tennessee . He placed third in the Ladies Class at the Chicago International against
good competition . INVASIONS BIG BOY , another owned by Permanent Construction Co ., has shown that he , too , is ready for the competition this year . He tied in the ribbons in most every show last year and is improving in his gaits so much this year that Mary Lynn is very * optimistic .
Bar-Winn Stables — West Bend , Wisconsin
These stables are located on 75 acres of rolling and wooded Wisconsin land just two miles outside the city limits . This is a brand-new stable with some of the finest facilities in Wisconsin . The barn has 24 stalls plus a wash rack and saddling area , along with a heated blacksmith shop . The indoor arena is 50 x 170 and the outside ring is 90 x 270 . The barn is new but Mr . Winn has the services of one of Wisconsin ’ s finest trainers , George McGilvra , who has made many a Walking Horse in his day . George worked many horses for me and I was very impressed with his many two-year-olds . He also worked his stud , GO BOY ’ S WILDFIRE T . F ., who is standing to top mares at present . This horse was shown 17 times , winning 15 blues , 2 seconds and several championships . In 1964 he won the Governor ’ s Trophy at the Illinois State Fair . I might add that this stud walks . George worked a pretty two-year-old filly owned by Dean Marshall of Ipava , Illinois . This filly , out of the above stud , is coming on strong . He is very happy with another two-year-old filly owned by Dr . C . Shearer of Columbus . A good-looking two-year-old stud caught my eye - he ’ s owned by Dr . Sedwick of Antioch , Illinois , and this horse is walking . Another stud three-year-old SHADOW ’ S RHYTHM BOY owned by George , is really doing the job and should gather in some of those pretty metal objects this year . One of the top horses in the stable is owned by Dr . Edna Cree of Middleton , Wisconsin . This horse is going so well that it looks like the horse to beat in competition this year .
Blue Gate Farms — Stillwater , Minnesota
