The stable now has twenty-three horses in training. Bill Kissee of Ozark has an outstanding four-year-old stallion that they recently selected in Tennessee. SUN’S SHADOW, by MIDNIGHT SUN and out of a SHADOW mare, cer tainly has the breeding and the natural ability to make a top stallion. REBEL’S REPEAT, a chestnut two-year-old gelding, also made the trip to Missouri for Bill. This beautiful, fine colt is by MACK K’S REBEL out of a MACK K mare. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Turner, Stockton, have brought their chestnut gelding, SID’S LAST CHANCE, to be readied for the show season. This double-bred MIS SOURI CHANCE gelding will be shown some by the Turners and should do very well for them. SHADOW’S SOLITUDE is a fine four-year-old stal lion that belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kirksey of Houston. This horse has been shown sparingly and his best is yet to be seen. He is roan and has a great way of coming and going. One of the truly great sons of MIDNITE PLEASURE R.G. is MIDNIGHT WORLD NEWS, owned by Mr. and Mrs. George Clarkson of Republic. This black gelding is very consistent and will certainly be a threat in his classes. Clifford Birchfield has brought a very nice sorrel coming two-year-old filly to be broke. Another new two-year-old filly is by NIGHT TRAIN and is owned by Coy Brooks of Fordland. NICHOLS STABLE We now have working horses for us a man who came to our stables in February from Cookeville, Tennessee. Neil Clark has formerly trained at stables in Texas and North Carolina as well as in Tennessee. He is a native of middle Tennessee and comes from a family experienced in the horse business. We are working about twenty-five horses at this time and, of course, this is the home of the great sire, POPE’S SON OF MIDNIGHT. Neil is now working four two-year-old colts and all appear to be good prospects. He also has four three- year-old colts which are very good prospects. We are working several good age horses including the great amateur horse, DREAM AT MIDNIGHT, that has won many classes with Debbie Pollard in the saddle. A good MERRY BOY mare is now being groomed and two very fine prospects, MYSTERY’S COMMAND and MYSTERY’S SECRET, are being readied for stud & gelding and stake classes. Debbie is presently in her fourth year at college and working very hard, but hopes to find some time this spring and summer to help with riding and showing. May, 1968 SUN’S QUARTERBACK MOVED TO HAROLD WISE STABLES; TO STAND ALONGSIDE WORLD CHAMPION SON, TRIPLE THREAT SUN’S QUARTERBACK, sire of 1965 World Grand Champion TRIPLE THREAT, has been moved to stand alongside his World Champion son at the Har old Wise Stables in Lewisburg, Tennessee. QUARTER BACK has been a consistent producer of top horses for years. He had been standing at the Buddy Hugh Stables in Shelbyville, Tennessee before being moved by own er Hewitt Bordelon of LaFayette, Louisiana. Mr. Bor delon announced that he has lowered the stud fee on the horse to S100. It had been S150. These two top sires should prove to be extremely popular in Lewisburg. QUARTERBACK is a bay stal lion offering the finest in MIDNIGHT SUN blood plus excellent conformation and manners. TRIPLE THREAT has also proven himself as a breeding horse, having sired the great TRIPLE THREAT AGAIN. Mr. Bordelon and Harold Wise invite the public to go by and see this father-and-son team now standing together in Lewisburg. BLACK HAWK STABLES At the Black Hawk Stables, new trainer Howard Roberts is a busy young man as he goes about the task of preparing the stable’s 12 head of fine young horses for the coming season. Heading the stable’s six fine two-year-old entries will be NAMRON’S SIR ATOM, a beautiful sorrel stud. This colt is the possessor of great speed, lots of motion, and perfect form at all times. He has been seen by many of the area’s top horsemen and every one predicts that great things are in store for him. Howard is also working five three-year-olds, with the leading contender of this group being BLACK GUNSMOKE, a big-doing, jet-black gelding by SUN’S GUNSMOKE who was a blue-ribbon winner in his only showring appearance for owner B. J. Hecker, Jr. The only Junior horse in the barn is the great young mare, HANDSHAKER’S JOY. This bold-going mare just keeps getting better and better, and there (Continued on page 47} 35
