(Continued from page 51) magazine. Jimmy Joe coined the slogan about this time of "The World’s Best Established Walking Horse Market." On came winter, and when spring was over Middle Tennessee, Jimmy Joe went a new step farther. He had a three-day sale that was held on May 23, 24, and 25, 1946 at which he sold 393 head of Tennessee Walking Horses for an average of $691.12, an all-time high. Another Murray first.l This was the time that Jimmy Joe issued a written invitation to OLD WIL SON’S ACE, MIDNIGHT SUN, and MERRY GO BOY. They all three accepted with pleasure, and they were present "in person," and they went around the saw dust trail to the plaudits of the crowd gathered for this colorful Murray Farm Sale. The 14th sale in the fall of 1946 had an average of $436.32 for 254 horses sold. The 15th sale in the spring of 1947, May 21-23, had to be held without "the old maestro," because death had taken a hand in the deal and Jimmy Joe had died unexpectedly on April 19, 1947. He had been toying with radio, and had built his own station, WJJM, that now operates in his home town of Lewisburg. It was ready to go on the air at the time of the death of Jimmy Joe. I would have loved to have heard him on the opening night. I am sure he would have memoralized in fluent flow his beloved Tennessee Walking Horse. Jimmy Joe had prepared the copy and had read the proof for his cat alogue for this sale. His catalogues were always gems. They are now kept in many private libraries, one of which is that of the writer of this article. av Farm Sales since are Jimmy still going They The Murray averages Joe on. departed have had goo maestro is missed and the color this life, but in d tQ the auctions is lacking, for and the verve n £R SHOWMAN - requiescat. only he was THE mao REX WATTS STABLES BOX 383 HUDSON, N.
