class for the past two years at the Celebration . Miss Allen is sharing her talent with local riders , as she is giving riding lessons by appointment .
For Dr . B . T . Iglehart of Clarksville , Charles Massey is training EL DORADO ’ S CHOICE W . This big bay gelding is a dependable amateur , juvenile or stake horse at any time . He has a head-shaking big lick , and he was shown to tenth place in the four-year-old gelding class at the 1966 Celebration . Also for the Igleharts , Charles is training COTTON QUEEN ’ S MAY 4TH . This five-year-old satiny black mare is by COTTON QUEEN ’ S GO BOY and will be coming on strong for competition in 1968 .
Sun Crest has several outstanding colts in training . A four-year-old stud by EBONY MASTERPIECE out of a LAST CHANCE mare is making steady progress toward junior honors this spring . Owned by Sun Crest Stable and C . C . Freeman , this colt should make big news before long . In the two-year-old stallion class , Sun Crest will campaign a sorrel colt with flaxen mane and tail . This colt is by GO BOY ’ S SHADOW out of a MIDNIGHT SUN mare . Its owners are Dr . and Mrs . James Morgan of Henderson , Kentucky . The other outstanding member of the two-year-old pair is a black filly by STATELY GO BOY in training for Joe Parker of Murray , Ky . The prime contender for three-year-old championships is an outstanding bay stud by SUN ’ S ROCKET GO BOY .
SCRIVNER STABLES
Sonny Scrivner seems to be doing fine with his new stable in Rogersville , Missouri , just outside Springfield . Sonny has been training horses since 1947 . He has three outstanding mares that have moved into his barn which opened February first . In all , he has fourteen horses in training and facilities to handle twentyfour . Several more have been promised and are on the way .
CANDY KISSES is a beautiful sorrel aged mare owned by Dan Wiley of Rogersville . This mare is sitting up in that bridle and really stroking . She was 1966 Amateur Champion in Missouri and she has tied twice at the Celebration . They also have a three-yearold bay stallion for Dan by EBONY MASTERPIECE that ’ s really shaping up .
Mr . and Mrs . Art Hollaway have an excellent mare with Sonny , too . MIDNIGHT SUN ’ S MISTRESS is the right color — black — and is just now reaching her prime . She shakes that head and is developing a
beautiful canter , and will be a real three-gaited Walking Horse . The Hollaways also have a top prospect
in a blue roan two-year-old filly by SUN ’ S BLACK
MAGIC LM called SUN ’ S MAGIC LADY . They also have two other good black horses here . SUN DUST PRIDE is a black three-year-old stallion . MIDNIGHT RAMBLER , a black gelding , is improving greatly and they are also proud of their stallion , RHODA ’ S MACK K . Bill Kissee has three horses at Scrivner Stables . His mare , KISSIN ’ KIN , teamed with daughter Judy , should be tough in that juvenile competition . He has a colt by DANNY GO BOY here that has walking ways , and another sorrel colt with lots of class SET TING SUN ’ S PLAYBOY . Another top two-year-old bay colt is owned by Gary Acker of Ash Grove . He is by Francis Dulin ’ s top stud , BLACK ANGEL ’ S MACK K , and like so many of this stallion ’ s colts he has that right way of going
Sonny is also working an aged stallion , SULTAN ’ S COPPER KING , for J . W . Wolfe of Columbia , Miss This horse has a big bold way of going and a tremendous front end .
He is also working a bay two-year-old stallion , SHA DOW ’ S MYSTERY MAN , that is very promising for owners Terry Scott and Gerald Patton of Shelbyville , Tennessee . Stop by and see Sonny and Linda Scrivner if you are in the neighborhood . They will be glad to show you their stock , as they love to have visitors .
SEARS ’ STABLE
There was a blue Texas ' norther ’ blowing outside but inside the Sears ’ Stable in Houston , Texas there was far too much activity and planning for anyone to notice .
Bob Sherrill , able trainer for the Jim Sears family , has fifteen head of show horses in the barn . As if this were not enough work , they also have a remodeling project in the making which will make the barn extremely attractive and serviceable .
The fine bay mare , SHADOW ’ S SWEETHEART , shown formerly by Jim in the amateur classes , will be shown this year by daughter Sherry . This is the result of a switch whereby Sherry ’ s fine , big-striding black mare , GUNSMOKE ’ S DREAM , becomes the show property of her father . Both of these mares are clean , and Jim and Bob have come to the conclusion that everyone who professes to train horses should realize — " the only way to make a show horse is by time spent in the saddle .”
Sears ’ Stable has a fine junior horse in SANDMAN ’ S MISCHIEF . This big black stallion with a blaze made a name for himself as a two-year-old and is now ready to go the big route .
A young rider with a big future ahead is Kim Sears . This young man has just one show season behind him , but his progress is horsemanship and showmanship is spectacular . This season Kim will start on the
show trail on his good gelding , REX GO MAN , but a new mount is in the making . This new mount is the
good four-year-old black mare , SHADOW ’ S COUN TRY GIRL . There is not a two-year-old among the fifteen head at the stable , but they are loaded with talented threes
and fours . The showiest of this age group is a threeyear-old filly , SUN ’ S SOCIETY LADY B , of Celebration halter class fame . She ’ s big , black and beautiful , and just about ready .
The famous JOHNNY REB is at stud at the Sears ’ Stable , and what few colts he has sired thus far are reported to be extremely fine . JOHNNY REB had an injury last season which was difficult to detect , so therefore was not shown , but — he just might find himself back in pads and show shoes very soon .
BOB WOMBLE STALLION STABLES
Two top stallions , SUN ’ S BIG SHOT and KEENE ’ S GO BOY , are now standing at this new operation in Chattanooga , Tennessee . Owner Bob Womble has purchased SUN ’ S BIG SHOT and has a lease arrangement on KEENE ’ S GO BOY with owners Clayton & Hood of Attalla , Alabama .
