BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION FUTURITY INITIATES CELEBRATION WEEK ACTIVITIES The 29th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Futurity attracted some of the outstanding young prospects of the breed and a lively crowd of interested horse lovers. Sponsored by the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ Association and held annually on the Celebration grounds the night prior to the open ing of the Celebration, this show is the looking-glass for the future horses of the breed. The double-barreled attack of the S. W. Beech Sta bles, MERRY GO BOY and EBONY MASTERPIECE, dominated the show by capturing five of the six blue ribbons and twenty-five of the sixty ribbons given away in all the classes. Colts sired by these two top stallions have always been highly rated and they seem to be upholding this tradition very well. The other blue ribbon was won by a colt sired by STATELY GO BOY in the first class of the show. This was the Weanling Filly class, won by STATE LY’S SPRITE owned by Lyle Cashion Company of Jackson, Mississippi The other blue ribbon winners were MAID OF MASTERPIECE in the Yearling Filly Class; EBONY’S MARCH WIND in the Two-Year-Old Filly Class; GO BOY’S MAGIC MOMENT in the Wean ling Colt Class; GO BOY’S LADY’S MAN in the Year ling Colt Class; and GO BOY’S BLACK ROOSTER in the Two-Year-Old Colt Class. The three judges for this year’s show were Marshall Ledbetter, Jr., Lucian Scott and C. H. Williamson. A. D. "Pop” Luna served capably as Show Manager while Secretary Sharon Brandon did her typical tho rough job. Emmett Guy did the announcing, while Jimmy Richardson was at the keyboard of his much- traveled organ. The Futurity was a fitting prelude to this year’s Celebration. The show was smoothly run and attracted some of the top young colts of the breed. The Breed ers’ Association is to be congratulated for the fine manner in which the show was presented. Complete results of the six classes can be found in the Horse Show Results section of this magazine. September, 1967 TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE BREEDERS’ MOIL FUTURITY 19
