class . Immediately after this victory Jimmy Holloway took over and began to groom the horse for saddle
class competition for 1965 .
Needless to say , Jimmy Holloway has always held this particular colt in high regard . He has never really pushed this horse and didn ’ t carry him too fast as a two-year-old . He won his share of top honors his first year under saddle and was successful in making it " three in a row ” at the Breeders ’ Association Futurity by winning the Two-Year-Old Championship in 1965 with Jimmy Holloway in the saddle .
GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT has been shown consistently throughout his career . Jimmy , although located in the " Deep South ,” has made every7 effort to show his horse in as many different areas as possible . He has been shown against the best competition in the country and over the past three years has managed to keep himself up at the top as a contender every time he enters the showring .
The string of victories that GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT has hung up in the past three years is impressive . In addition to being tied high at the Celebration as a two-year-old and a three-year-old , this fine black stallion also made himself known this year as a Junior horse . He will be shown two or three more times this year to complete his competition in Junior classes . Jimmy plans to take him to Montgomery and Baton Rouge and then let him rest until the first of the year .
Now , then . . . what about the future ? This is the big question ! In a recent conversation with Jimmy Holloway about this horse , we learned that he has very definite plans for the future . Next year , GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT will be a five-year-old . He will be competing with Age Horses for the first time in his career and there is a big jump between limited age competition and open competition . Most people don ’ t realize it , but this is like comparing a top college football player with a top professional . It takes time and experience to compete with them . Can GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT go with age horses ? We think so , and so does Jimmy Holloway .
He describes his horse as being in the best condition of his life . He also says his horse is still growing and should approach his peak of maturity next year . As a show horse GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT at times has shown " flashes of greatness .” It is this that has developed a mass of supporters who think that next year this horse will develop into one of the real top contenders for Championship honors . If everything goes as Mr . Holloway plans , he is going to take aim at the World ’ s Championship crown , riding GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT for Mr . C . D . Maddox . It is interesting to note that the large percentage of horses that have won the World Grand Championship have been in the category of GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT . They have made their way through the ranks as young horses and have been consistent in tying high in almost every class . On reaching maturity they develop their full potential and come on strong as age horses . A lot of people believe that GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT can be the next horse to " wear the roses .”
GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT is by MERRY GO BOY and is out of NAMRON ’ S LADY . The dam side of his breeding shows excellent blood that is a good cross of BARON NAMRON and ROAN ALLEN F-38 . He is
6 a big horse , standing almost 16 hands , and is black with two hind socks . His breeding shows up well in his conformation and natural ability . Next year we will see a brand-new group of horses taking a shot at top honors and out front should be a horse named GO BOY ’ S BIG SHOT with Jimmy Holloway up .
WE HOPED NOBODY WOULD NOTICE . . .
. but of course you did , and you wondered and y0u asked us about it . Here ’ s the story on the September
issue . We took a lot of time with the Celebration issue trying to get all the results right , all the pictures in place , all the credits where deserved . This extra care , plus some extra colors on the cover and elsewhere *
made us a bit late with this issue . As we prepared to mail the magazine it was noted that the date was wrong on the cover .
To correct this error would have taken nearly a week , as it would have necessitated re-printing the four-color cover . We unanimously decided to let it go and explain it this month .
We appreciate your interest , which was evidenced by your inquiries . We hope you understand why it was impossible to answer you individually .
It ’ s not every year you can have two different October issues of the same magazine !
