JIMMY HOLLOWAY SALE MOVED TO JACKSON

DEEP SOUTH ACTIVITY ON UPSWING
AS PRICES ARE STABLE
WAY DOWN SOUTH
By Janie Bramlctt
Hello again from Way Down South . This month ’ s column is donated entirely to the Fifth Annual Jimmy Holloway Sale which was held on the 24th and 25th of March . Jimmy and Bernice really outdid themselves this year . Besides having some top horses consigned , they really showed all of the buyers and interested by-standers what real Southern hospitality is !
Due to the limited facilities in Kosciusko , Jimmy decided to move this year ’ s sale to Jackson . With the sale barn at the Mississippi Fair Grounds , buyers could sit back comfortably and watch the consigned stock “ show their stuff ” with no regard of rain or cold . It was indeed a wonderful location for a very successful sale .
On Friday night , Jimmy and Bernice entertained with their annual “ Sale Ball .” There was plenty of food and drink for all with music provided for those folks who wished to show off their dance floor talents . As has become the custom . Jimmy was persuaded to sing for us . It seems that his talent for showing top horses doesn ’ t exceed his singing ability . His rendition of “ Almost Persuaded ” was sound proof of that !
If prices and general activity are any indication as to the condition of the market for Tennessee Walking Horses in the deep south , then the Jimmy Holloway Sale proved that we are in pretty good shape . As might be expected , there were a lot of horses in the pleasure horse category that went through this sale that kept the “ average ” down , but the horses that were “ show horse ” caliber were priced well and sold well . It appears that we have the same situation in our part of the country that is quite obvious in other areas and that is an abundance of horses . As more and more new people become interested in our breed however , we should be able to find adequate buyers for horses of all types .
As I said earlier , this year ’ s sale certainly surpassed all others in the quality of horses consigned . Just to mention a few :
GLORY ’ S DARK DESTINY , a full brother to DARK GLORY , was sold by Addys Brown to Mr . Charlie Waters for $ 2750 .
NOBLE ’ S MARY ANN , a top brood marc in foal to MERRY GO BOY , was sold by the Deep South Stables to Mr . Frank Parnell for $ 1500 .
MAGIC ’ S BLACK PEPPER , a top three year old stud , was sold by Mr . Bob Henson to Mr . Fred Fowler for $ 1050 .
NIGHT RIDER , a three year old stud , was sold by Tarkington Stables to West Hill Stables for $ 3000 .
TROUPERS DARK SHADOW , a top amateur mare , was sold bv Mr . O . L . Hall to jimmy Hollowav for $ 3500 .
GO GLORY GO , the 1966 Mid-South Amateur Champion , was sold bv Circle R . Stables to Dr . Sanford
for $ 2200 . OAK ’ S FRANCES ALLEN with a CARBON COPY
colt by her side was sold by Dr . Ralph Ford to Mr . George Lenox for $ 1325 .
One of the unusual highlights of the sale was when Harold Kennedy and J . T . Leech rode a matched pair of roan geldings thru the ring and sold them as a matched pair .
For those of you who missed this year ’ s sale — it ’ s a little late now to regret having missed it . But you can make your plans right now to attend next year ’ s . It ’ s certainly an event worth attending !
