With a few short weeks to recuperate from the California Walking Horse Celebration and Horse Show , we found that another major show was scheduled in the northern part of California . This show , the 114th Annual California State Fair and Exposition Horse Show and Horse Fair was held June 9 through 18 , in Sacramento , the State Capital of California . The exhibitors came from all parts of California and nearby states , vying for the top honors of the show . In the Walking Horse Division over $ 3,000.00 was offered in awards and trophies . The judge of this division was Grover Sanders , from Salvang , California . Harold Collinson was the Ring Master and Official Horn
Blower , with the music provided by Organist Ted Alexander . These gentlemen worked together with the Announcers , A . H . S . A . Stewards and all other officials to help make the show move well . It started Friday morning with the presentation of the Colors and the Official Horn Blower calling the first exhibitors to the ring . That evening the program consisted of a Prevue Of The Horse , with each division sending in a representative while the announcer gave a brief background and highlights of the breed , which was followed by a Fashion Show and Horse
Show Patrons Ball . The classes started early each morning and continued through the evening with several special
events throughout the entire show . An Exhibitor ’ s Party as well as a Junior Exhibitor ’ s Party was given . It was obvious that a great deal of time and effort had been expended to present this major horse show .
Saturday evening brought about the Walking Horse Stallion and Gelding Stake class with Paul Hughes of Carousel Stables on STATELY ’ S SUNLIGHT taking the blue for Robert C . Slee . The Walking Horse Mare Stake
was won by SUNBEAM ’ S PRODUCER with Glenn Miller riding for Blue Ridge Ranch . In the Two-Year-Old class we found UPTOWN ’ S TARBOY owned and ridden by W . H . Light . The Ladies to Ride class was won by Ro Swift on SILVER THREADS owned by Mr . and Mrs . H . A . Swift . In the Pleasure class , Danny McAllister took
the blue for Walking W . Ranch , and the Junior Horse class was won by DAPPER DAN with Glenn Miller riding for the Walking W . Ranch . The $ 500.00 Amateur Stake award was carried off by Robert M . Edmonds on SUN BEAM ’ S PRODUCER for Blue Ridge Ranch . Drawing the show to a close for the Walking Horse Division was the $ 1,000.00 Championship Stake class with the hardto-beat SUNBEAM ’ S PRODUCER ridden by Glenn Miller walking off with the top honors again , for Blue Ridge Ranch .
Not to be forgotten were the well-attended one- and two-day shows held in the Southern part of California , which included the following shows : West Hills Hunt Club Horse Show — Park Pleasure class winner , Sally Ford on ROBIN ’ S EASTER owned by Ford ’ s Walkers , and the winner of the Open class was STATELY AGAIN with Bill Oakford riding for Carolyn Hawley ; The Great Western National Horse Show — Park Pleasure class winner was Sally Ford on ROBIN ’ S EASTER for Ford ’ s
Walkers , and Bill Oakford riding STATELY AGAIN for Carolyn Hawley took the winners trophy in a competitive
Open class ; Rancho Santa Fe Horse Show Park Pleasure class was won by Iola Robinson on her horse , PRINCESS ROBIN , and the Open class winner was none other than Sally Ford on THE NEW BLACK ANGEL for Ford ’ s Walkers . A local show given by the Fullerton Recreational Riders awarded the first place ribbons to Kirk Turner on MACK K ’ S MINISTER for Ford ’ s Walkers in the Park Pleasure class and Sally Ford on HOBBY ’ S JUNE LAD in the Junior Equitation class , also for Ford ’ s Walkers . This was Kirk Turner ’ s last ride on the West Coast for a while and I am sure he will be missed . The
Ridge Riders All English Show found the first award in the Park Pleasure class going to Bob Ellis on FIRE CRACKER , and the Junior to Ride class was won by an excited Debra Werner on MERRY RED ROBIN owned
by Mr . and Mrs . Werner . The winner of the Amateur to Ride class was Tim Todd on his horse GO MISS STATEIY . Check the West Coast Horse Show Results section for complete results .
