McFarlin Stables
SUN'S STRADIVARIUS —Top stallion in 1966 as a two-year-
old takes aim at even higher honors this year as a thrce-year-
oid. Neil Robinson is in the saddle.
The Jeff coat broodmares keep Neil well supplied with
young stock. The band consists of about 50 broodmares
with colts bv such sires as SUN’S DELIGHT, EBONY
MASTERPIECE. MERRY GO BOY. and SORREL
SHADOW.
The working hours start early and end late for Neil
at the Jeff coat Stables. He devotes unlimited time to his
training chores and his knowledge of horses is appreciated
by all who know him. Neil Robinson has definitely “got
what it takes” to be a top horse trainer.
New Officers for Tennessee Valley
Walking Horse Association
Officers for 1967 were elected by the Tennessee Valley
Walking Horse Association at a recent meeting. Mr. Billy
jo Robinson, owner of BIG SHOT’S T BIRD, champion
three-year-old stallion, was elected president. Mrs. Joe
Smith will serve as secretary and Mrs. Faye White as
treasurer.
1966 was a very prosperous year for the club which
now has a membership of 104 Walking Horse advocates.
The club meets every fourth Thursday of the month for
a dinner meeting and a talk by a knowledgeable and
prominent individual in the business. Mrs. Betty Sain was
the club’s speaker in January and she gave a very infor
mative and enjoyable talk.
The club is planning to give a trophy to the top ama
teur and juvenile rider in the organization as determined
by a point system for placing at horse shows. Mr. Robin
son is expecting about five or six entries for the honor.
Presentation will be made at the December meeting and
will include all 1967 shows.
An annual boat ride plus the sale of jewelry are two
oilier projects which the club undertakes. The sale of
Walking Horse jewelry has proved to be very popular
with people in the horse business and many orders are
still coming in. The boat ride is an annual affair in the
summer and is one of the best attended functions of
the club.

If you are ever over towards Murfreesboro, Tennessee
it would be well worth your while to stop by the McFarlin
Stables and see some top Walking Horse prospects. The
welcome mat is always out and the visit will be worth its
weight in gold if you are looking for top show horses.
James Rowland has moved some of his stock to the
well-known McFarlin Stables. Jimmy is stationed at Sew-
art Air Force Base outside Murfreesboro but still manages
to work his stock in his spare time. With William Sneed
as ground man all the stalls are filled and plenty of ac
tivity is going on.
Some of the top stock on hand includes a yearling
bay colt out of a DICTATOR mare. This young horse
has caused a lot of talk and appears to be one of those
horses that come along once in a blue moon. This young
horse is owned by Mr. McFarlin and Fred Jones.
Jimmy is working a top three-year-old mare by SCAT-
MAN. This fine mare has never been shown but shows
plenty of ability. Jimmy and Fred Jones of Murfreesboro
are the proud owners of this horse. Also on hand is a top
three-year-old MIDNIGHT SUN stallion owned by Fred
Jones and Ed Lehning of Woodbury. This strong stallion
is working well and should be heard of a lot in the future
show seasons.
Murfreesboro is a real haven for top Walking Horses
and some of the best can be found at the McFarlin Sta
bles. Be sure and stop by for a visit if you are ever over
that way.
Valley View Stables
Everett Majors tells us the activity in his part of the%
country is good. The Valley View Stables are located in
the picturesque state of Virginia which has given many
top horses to the Walking Horse breed.
Everett is talking in terms of a junior championship
at this years Celebration. His junior stallion stands 16
hands high and is a beautiful jet black. His pedigree has
good blood lines and his sire is MERRY GO BOY. Ever
ett feels this hose is one of those top few and is real
anxious to prove it in shows this year.
Everett tied second at Montgomery with his two-year-
old gelding and says the horse has improved since then.
His canter is just right and the flat foot and running walk
are solid and steady. He took to the canter the way you
always hope they will and this should make him an even
more formidable challenger this year.
A three-year-old stud by GREY SUN is another of
the top horses now working at Valley View. This horse
has a deep black color and is progressing nicely. The fans
will be looking real hard at this horse whenever he comes
into the ring.
