Live Oak Stables
North Carolina has another Walking Horse operation going strong named Live Oak Stables . The barn , almost a year old , is 216 feet long , with a thirtyfoot-wide hall separating the 28 stalls . The stable is located in Waxhaw , N . C ., and is owned by Raffer Turner of Union , S . C ., Mary and Paul Riggins of Monroe , N . C . and Sue H . Page of Waxhaw .
Mr . D . M . Creech of Charlotte , N . C . is standing DRIFTWOOD GO BOY at stud at Live Oak Stables .
PeeWee Glover is working strictly with amateur horses and riders , and the results promise to make Live Oak Stables the top amateur stable in the area .
Some of the good horses “ PeeWee ” is training include : TRAVELER , a girl ’ s juvenile horse owned by Robin Jackson , of Charlotte , N . C .; SUN ’ S BIG ORANGE , a black thirteen-year-old MIDNIGHT SUN stud ( sire of SUN ’ S MIGHTY FINE ) owned by the Riggins ; KEITH ’ S FROSTY ALLEN , a four-year-old stud owned by Larry Carpenter of Charlotte ; FROSTY MAN , owned by Nancy Reynolds , Mint Hill ; and a black three ' year-old mare owned by Bill Hunter , also of Mint Hill .
Mrs . Page has JACK SUTTON , a three-year-old Walking Pony , in training that her daughter Becky rides , as well as a nice bay , SECRET ’ S BEAUREGARD .
Jack and Ruby Bulla of Charlotte have a two-year-old filly in training . L . L . McMichael ’ s two daughters , Linda and Sam , show a four-year-old filly by SHADOW ’ S SOCIETY MAN . Rob Crowder of Chester , S . C ., has a two-year-old , ELDORADO SOCIETY MAN , in training , and is sending another two-year-old , by GO BOY ’ S MERRY SUN , to the Sale of Champions .
Although Live Oak Stables doesn ’ t plan to send any horses to the 1967 Celebration , PeeWee is keeping them all in excellent shape and there will probably be some real contenders in next year ’ s amateur classes from Waxhaw , N . C .
Johnson of High Point , and KING OF THE ROAD , a contending Junior Stallion owned by Charles Blackburn . Louis Jenkins of N . Wilkesboro will be watching for his mare , QUARTERBACK ’ S HONEY , in the age mare class , and PIDDLEY ’ S PIDDLEWINK , owned by Julian Brady , will be going for honors in the Junior Gelding Class . This comprises a good group of Celebration Horses and Kenny should get his share of honors .
Mountain View Stables
Trainer John Kistler is slowly carving out a reputation for himself and the Mountain View Stables in Statesville , North Carolina . This facility is owned by Mr . Robert C . Garrison and is considered a fine showplace for Tennessee Walking Horses . In addition to the horses owned by Mr . Garrison , John is working HIGH HAT ’ S SE CURITY , owned by Mrs . P . E . Loomis of Winter Garden , Florida . This colt has attracted a lot of attention by his natural ability and should do well in the showring . Also , Earl Elmore of Lincolnton , North Carolina , has a top SUN ’ S DELIGHT filly named DELIGHT ’ S DARLING that is making excellent progress .
The big topic of discussion at Mountain View is PLEASURE ’ S MERRY BOY , a top age stallion that was purchased from Claude Brown last year . John has done very well with him throughout the Carolina circuit this season and aims to “ get a piece of the action ” at the Celebration . He is capable of beating some of the top horses around .
A four-year-old BIG SHOT horse is also attracting a lot of attention . This big-lick bay stallion is being groomed by John for age horse competition next year and they should do well . His name is BIG SHOT ’ S DECISION .
John is assisted by his young son Danny , who sits a horse very well for a thirteen-year-old . They make a good team and we predict they will carry Mountain View ' into the “ big time ” one of these days .
Kenny Price Stables
Kenny Price has about rounded out his training and showing schedule as he readies for the Celebration . Considered one of the top young trainers in the business , Kenny has done well the past two years . He has high hopes this year for the ELDORADO KID , a big strolling gray stallion that is owned by Dr . and Mrs . Bob Snyder , Lexington , N . C ., and Mr . and Mrs . Douglas Allen , Thomasville , N . C . He has the “ Kid ” in top shape and
should be right there when the dust clears .
Kenny is also taking several other top contenders to the big show . Included will be COLLEGE BOY , a top amateur horse owned and ridden by Charles Warren . SIR CHARLIE , a chestnut two-year-old stallion owned by Mr . and Mrs . Charles Blackburn of High Point , should do well in his class . BUOYANT 7 , a black stallion owned by Mr . and Mrs . Delk Mendenhall , will be making the trip to Shelbyville as will G ’ S MERRY J , a roan gelding owned by John Cantrell of Roanoke . Ralph Deutsch will be showing his GO BOY ’ S BLAZE in men ’ s amateur competition and Margaret Hubbard will be making a go of it on SUPER SPORT , her fine Ladies Gelding . Mrs . Hunter Dalton of High Point , will hit the ring on WALL S GO BOY , her Amateur mount and should do well .
Other horses making the trip will be JET ’ S MERR \ BOY , an aged Gelding owned by Dr . and Mrs . Jimmy
