FOUR MAJOR SALES FEATURED DURING WEEK OF CELEBRATION The Celebration is more than just a horse show. It is a week of concentrated horse activity with a lively pace and an exciting setting. Thousands of people journey fj*0™ all over the country to Shelbyville for a week-and-a ha saturation period with the Tennessee Walking Horse. The focal point of Celebration week activity is the nightly session of the big show, but there is plenty to keep the horse-hungry public happy during the daylight hours. A great deal of time is spent visiting the numerous stables in the Shelbyville area or just wandering around the show grounds enjoying horse talk and looking at the competitors for the highest honors in the Walking Horse field. But more and more even- year the role played by the numerous Celebration Sales continues to grow. For in stance, there are four major sales during the Celebration week this year. Interest in and activity at these sales has become the major point of Celebration daytime activities as the visitors from all over the country are given the opportunity to bid on top stock to take back home with them. The famous Harlinsdale Farm will again stage their Celebration Sale this year with a three-day program set up. The sale will begin on Wednesday, August 30, and wind up on Friday, September 1. It will take place on the Harlinsdale Farm and thus afford visitors an opportunity to see this important part of Walking Horse history. The Farm is located on U. S. Highway 31 and Interstate 65, 18 miles south of Nashville. This will be the last production sale of yearlings by the famous MIDNIGHT SUN. Colts by this illustrious sire have been a dominant force in the show ring for many years, and he will long be remembered by all who follow the breed. The sale will also include many top colts by such famous sires as SUN’S DELIGHT, SPIRIT OF MIDNIGHT, MIDNIGHT MACK K, and MIDNIGHT BEAU. The blue ribbon showings of SUN’S DELIGHT colts this year should make bidding on his progeny very active as he is rapidly gaining an outstanding reputation as a sire of true walking colts. The Bailey-Montgomery Stables will again have their sale which has become famous for hospitality and fine horses. This sale is scheduled for one day, Tuesday, Aug ust 29. The sale will be held on the Bailey-Montgomery property with its excellent facilities. The property is lo cated on U. S. Highway 64 west, two miles west of Shelbyville. The sale will feature yearlings by sires such as GO BOY’S SHADOW, SUN’S BLACK MAGIC L. M. and PIDDLEY. All three of these sires are widely known for their top colts now showing. A new sale will be making its debut this year. The well-organized and professionally run GLL Farms of Col lierville, Tennessee will stage their first annual production sale during the Celebration. The sale will be held on the GLL property located one mile west of the Shelbyville City Limits on the Lewisburg Highway. The featured sire of this sale will be the 1964 World Grand Champion, CARBON COPY. Many knowledge able horsemen have predicted success for this great horje as a breeding sire and their predictions certainly seem well-founded.
