WALK ON, MINNESOTA! by Miss Carlene Holt Stillwater, Minnesota HERE AND THERE — Good to see Jean Whitesell of Minneapolis, Minn., back in the show ring with her lovely, little black mare SCARLET SECRET . . . Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ellingson of So. St. Paul, Minn., stopped by for a visit recently. They have some good registered Walkers which are kept on a farm in Wisconsin. Their newest pride and joy is a fine 1966 stud colt out of their mare OUR SILVER ECHO and sired by ACE'S YELLOW JACKET. This little colt is a palomino with white markings. Miss Carol Schachtler of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and her good friend Alice Kenyon came by one evening for a short visit. Carol owns the bold-going, black gelding STERLING’S GOOD NEWS, which she has exhibited very successfully this year. Alice Kenyon also owns some fine Walking Horses, among them are two mares carry ing excellent papers—a black, double MERRY BOY mare, and alsg a daughter of MIDNIGHT SUN. Visited recently with Shirley and Mike Keegan ot Lake Elmo, Minn. They have two young Walker geld ings being readied for field trial use. These two wonder ful people are certainly enthusiastic about Walking Horses. Sorry to see trainer Frank Dalke leave our area. He and his family have moved to Detroit, Michigan. Good luck, Frank, in your new position. STALLION ACRE FARM—Gilbert Minnesota This farm, specializing in Walking Horses, is located in northern Minnesota. Owners Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Bol have visited with us and we have also done some cor responding. They are certainly very enthusiastic about Walking Horses and have sent copies of the registration papers of several of the horses they own. They’ve gathered together some well-bred stock. Among these are: POTTER’S BEN—bay stallion, grandson of WILSON’S ALLEN; CHANCE’S SANDY ANN—sorrell mare, by MISSOURI CHANCE, out of a double WILSON’S ALLEN mare EQUANIL—roan mare with four white stockings, sired by WILSON'S MERRY BOY G.G. BLUE GATE FARM, INC.—Stillwater, Minnesota Full-time trainer, Lonnie Templeton has really been busy keeping all the horses worked and in top condition. Making a debut into the show ring this season was MIDNIGHT MERRY ALLIS. This is a bay roan, three- -year-old filly shown by Dr. Dorothy Muirhead for Blue Gate Farm. This little mare has lots of speed and has done well out there competing against older horses. Showing very successfully this summer under the trainer’s guidance is MIDNIGHT C BIG JOHN, bold, black Walker gelding, shown by Miss Debbie Larson of St. Paul, Minn. This was Debbie’s first show season on a Walker—and she certainly has collected a grand array of ribbons. WOODLANE FARM—Stillwater, Minnesota We are proud to announce the recent purchase of MACK K’S MAMBO, a ten-year-old stallion, sired by MIDNIGHT MACK K and out of a double WILSON’S ALLEN mare. He is a dark chestnut with a star, snip and off hind sock. Lester Bell of Stillwater, Minn, has 8 been showing this new horse for us. MACK K’S MAMBO has stood at stud to several mares this season—so we’re certainly looking forward to seeing his first crop of Min nesota foals next spring. We’ve also purchased two new registered mares: HONEY LADY—A bright sorrell brood mare of closeup GIOVANNI and HUNTER'S ALLEN F-10 breeding ;and MERRY FLASH-S., lovely dark chestnut with flaxen mane and darker tail. She is a double GIOVANNI bred mare. Our new indoor riding arena is near completion. It certainly will make riding an all-year-round pleasure for us. Our yearling filly, WILD AS THE WIND, has found herself some proud new owners. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Johnson of Sauk Rapids, Minn., have purchased this coal black filly. We certainly do miss WINDY, but kno’-’ that she has a fine home with the Johnsons. I'd like to again request that persons in the Minne sota area write to me about their Walking Horses. This interesting information and other Walker news can then be included in future articles. My complete address is: Miss Carlen Holt, Woodlane Farm, R. R. 5, Box 123A, Stillwater, Minnesota 55082.
