TENNESSEE WALKERS IN TEXAS Mrs. Edith Puckett Route 4, Box 110 Tyler, Texas Four great shows in four consecutive weekends! Marshall Lions’ Club Annual Show July 15-16 was the first in this series and it was a good one. Plenty of good horses, lots of horse talk and an enthusiastic crowd will make a good show anytime. HERBERT MURRAY of Texarkana did a fine job of filling in as judge for BILL MOORE who had to miss the show due to the death of his father. GLEN LOE and V. R. BRAWLEY, trainer, of Tullos, Louisiana were among the new friends we made at this show and after seeing them again at the Nacog doches Show, we feel we’re old friends. These people are real Walking Horse enthusiasts and have some fine horses. MR. BRAAVLEY won the stake class on Grand Marshall for DR. SHAMLAU of Tullos .The rest of the results will be found in Show Results. The next weekend found most of the same crowd, some of whom are C. C. WILLIAMS, JOE WILLIAMS, DR. ROGER HARMON and daughter, KAY, JOE HAYNES, DICK and SAM FORD, of Marshall, MR. and MRS. A. . LOCKE and JOHN DENSON of Tyler, at Garlond, Texas for another good show, ably judged by BILL HUTSON of Shreveport. DR. J. BYRON LANDRESS and DUB IVINS are the hard workers for this show. JOHN SHARPE was the winner in the stake class on Mack K.3s Fair Warning. And the following weekend found most of us in Stephenville for the Second Annual State Walking Horse Show, judged by GEORGE MOORE of Shreveport. The show committee is the most hospitable group to be found and it was a good show, but needed more horses. I understand from MR. H. H. HASSLER that this was probably the last of these shows in Stephenville be cause the show lost quite a bit of money. I'm sure it is a disappointment to all those who worked so hard, though the exhibitors and spectators enjoyed it. FRANK MASON, SHIRLEY SHARPE. BUD SEATON, BABS WALKER, JULIA and JERRY HORN, all of BOOSIE’S RAIDERS (the gang from Marshall listed above), WAYNE DAVIS, EDDIE MILLIGAN, JOHN SHARPE, MR. and MRS. O. LATHROP, were among the en 24 thusiastic participants here. I was happy to meet MR. and MRS. WESTON from Weatherford, Texas. And MR. and MRS. ELGIN GANDY and their lovely daughter, BECKY, made our stay overnight in Ft. Worth a real pleasure. BUD SEATON took the blue in the stake class on SHIRLEY SHARPE’S Go Boy3s Chatter box. And on to Nacogdoches, the biggest show in this area, where MR. JACK MOORMAN of Meridian, Mississippi judged the Walking Horse classes. I don’t think too much praise can be given LINDA and ELI POOLE. They are two of the hardest working people I’ve ever seen and they so kindly took on the added burden of caring for my horse for me. I know the people of Nacog doches agree with me because they presented LINDA with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the Saturday night performance. And the show was a great success in every way. CLAIMING CLASS ADDS EXTRA INTEREST TO BATON ROUGE SHOW An interesting addition to the Dixie Horse Show Jubilee this year will be the inclusion of a $3,000 Claim ing Class. The show, which is scheduled to run No vember 3-6, hopes this class will have the same positive effects that this event has at the Thoroughbred Race Tracks. The class will include stallions, mare or geldings of any age with riders required to be 18 or older. Any horse entered in the class can be claimed for $3,000 by anyone. It is hoped that this class will stimulate interest at the grass roots level for exhibitors who would not nor mally appear in the show ring. Fans in the Baton Rouge area have ben trying to get this class included in their show for several years and are very optimistic about its prospects. — TOP HORSES BROOD MARES - GO BOY mares in foal to MIDNIGHT SUN - Weanlings by MIDNIGHT SUN - Mares in foal to SUN’S DELIGHT - Top bred young mares by MERRY GO BOY and MIDNIGHT SUN — Top two-year-old and top three-year-old now under saddle and do ing well with Middle Tennessee trainer — .Top pleasure mares and riding horses — One good pleasure gelding, child broke — GOOD MARES AND COLTS FOR SALE AT ALL TIMES - WE STRIVE FOR THE BEST.
