How some poor horses make “ their rounds ” It really is a shame . But when money ’ s gone , and horse worn out It ’ s the trainer whom they blame .
Folks ! “ Trainers ” are a lot like us , In fact they ' re almost “ Human ,” Mine is a “ farrier ,” “ breaks ” and “ trains ” And even does his groom-en .
He ’ s not a gabby , windy guy , And gives just sound advice . Oh . he has a temper , that is true — But directs it at his wife .
I believe He ’ ll make a “ Trainer ” And be a good success . For you sec — he ’ s not proud of “ himself ,’’ He likes the horses best . . .

BITS AND SPURS By Sharon Terry
College has now resumed , and as I am now going to Delta State I have a little time available to work my horses . I have found time , however , to get some information about the horse activity of some very interesting people .
Mr . and Mrs . E . L . Burgess of Sherrill . Arkansas ( Jonquil Acres Stable ) have had a nice year and have a very good string of show horses . They are fortunate in having the noted trainer . E . L . O ’ Callaghan , working for them . Cal has been at Jonquil Acres about a year , having worked for many noted owners , among them Mr . R . B . Gill . Cal ’ s pride and jov is the prettv chestnut two-yearold stallion . IRMA ’ S PIN UP bv KEETER ’ S PIN UP and out of a MIDNIGHT SUN mare . This colt has been shown only twice , winning second place at Forrest City , Arkansas , and taking the blue in the two-vear-old class at Bastrop , Louisiana . Mr . Burgess has two PERFECTION three-vear-olds that Cal had been winning with this summer . SHADOW ’ S LADY WILSON , three-year-old mare by GO BOY ’ S SHADOW and out of a WILSON ’ S ACE mare is really working great and should be ready to really give the boys fits in the four-vear-old classes next summer . Cal has Mr . Burgess ’ amateur gelding . ROAN SULTAN , in top form for all amateur classes . Mr . Burgess has done ' veil with ROAN SULTAN this summer and will close the season with him at the Jackson show . Mr . and Mis . Buigess have five top two-vear-old prospects for next year , t ' vo by ROYAL HEIR , one bv MIDNIGHT BEAU and two GO BOY colts . From the looks of things , Cal should have a selection of top two-year-olds next year .
Kenneth Womble has rented 30 stalls from Mabrun Magnusson ’ s Gold Star Stables at the old Milkv Way Farms in Pulaski . Tennessee . Kenneth now has his own public training stable and visitors arc welcome . This young trainer should be a great asset to Middle Tennessee .

Man Freed of Cruelty Charges Sues Humane Federation
Anthony Franklina , owner of a stable in Bainbridge Township , Geauga County , recently brought lawsuits totaling $ 2,125,000 against the Ohio Humane Federation , The Plain Dealer , a Geauga County deputy sheriff and others .
Franklina , whom the humane federation , had accused of cruelty to his horses , was acquitted of the charge on Oct . 15 by a Municipal Court jury in Chardon . His damage suits , filed in U . S . District Court and Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court allege there had been a
conspiracy to deprive him of his rights and to blacken his name .
Named defendants also were Sylvia Green , a humane federation official ; Lyda Fortner of Solon , who brought the original complaint against Franklina ; Plain Dealer reporter Joel S . Sugarman and Geauga Deputy Sheriff William Strawbridge .
Franklina is seeking $ 1.25 million damages in his Common Pleas suit and $ 900,000 in federal court . The Common Pleas suit charges libel , false arrest and malicious prosecution . The federal court action charged that the defendants cooperated in an unreasonable search of the stables and that the search was followed by Franklina ’ s arrest .
