CHATSWORTH SHOW- SECOND ANNUAL GEORGIA WALKING HORSE CLASSIC EAST TENNESSEE NEWS By “Skip” and Carolyn Stansberry Rt. No. 16, Knoxville, Tennessee BIG SUCCESS! By Dodie Ellison The Second Annual Walking Horse Classic was held in Chatsworth, Georgia, on October 1, 1966. There were twelve big classes, and the show was a tremendous success. This year exhibitors fi'om five states were there. I under­ stand the Horse Show Committee has far-reaching plans for this annual affair and already it is a must on every­ body’s list. Dale Stone, Rome, Georgia, provided excellent music, and Mr. James Rowland, of Murfreesboro, Ten­ nessee, served as judge. The temperature had dropped to 37 degrees, but at­ tendance was record-breaking and almost every class was packed. The gate opened at 7:00 P.M. sharp, and the first class was . . . TWO-YEAR-OLD WALKING HORSES. This was a big class, with 32 horses, and competition was keen. First Place went to SUPER SPORT. MACK MOTES up for VIC THOMPSON STABLES: second to GO BOY’S JET STAR. BUDDY KIRBY up for MR. & MRS. T. L. ADCOCK, McMinnville, Tenn. Today’s juveniles can ride the pants off a horse and show like professionals. The JUVENILE CLASS, riders under 18, proved thrilling and after two hotly contested workouts, LEE ANN McCLUEN, Rockwood, Tenn., took the blue on her ROSE FOREVER. Reserve went to DAVE CAGLE of Atlanta. Georgia. The winners of the NOVICE WALKING HORSE CLASS were none other than Wink Groover and SUN OF IMPALA for Bel Aire Stables. Etowah, Tenn. THE CONTENDER, and Elmore Brock came in close for sec­ ond. All the horses looked good and won’t remain in novice classes for long. In WALKING PONIES. 58" and under, pretty little TROUBLE AGAIN walked up a storm for David Land­ rum, of Landrum Stables. Griffin. Georgia, to capture the blue. MIGHTY LITTLE FELLOW.' with owner LIZ KYLE, of Guntcrsville, Ala., up was reserve. ROYAL BLOOD, with Mike Janeway up for Bill Mullens. New Market, Tenn., put on a stirring perform­ ance to outclass the field of WALKING MARES. Reserve was the good SETTING SUN’S SUPREME, shown bv owner-rider Don Bell, of Boaz, Ala. One of the best classes was the THREE-YEAR-OLD WALKING HORSES. Champion BIG SHOT’S T-BIRD, under the capable hands of trainer Billy Brantley, grabbed this class for owners Mr. and Mrs. Billy Joe Robinson of Chattanooga, Tenn. Second place challenger was MAJOR’S IMAGE. Don Bell up for L. P. Gillespie, Boaz, Ala. Third Place went to INVASION’S PERSUASION' Billy Sledge up. (Continued on page
