if they meant business and in the stake they stayed through four ( that ’ s right ) workouts with fourteen horses remaining . Judge Jack Darnell admittedly got a bit mixed up and after calling some exhibitors back into the center ring after the show , tied CLOWN ’ S SPUR to the blue and DIXIE ’ S BIG SHOT reserve . This reversed his original tie and both Lloyd Wood , who made the best show of his career on CLOWN ’ S SPUR that night , and Terrell Singletan ', riding DIXIE BIG SHOT , were excellent examples of what true sportsmen should be . T-Ville Stables did get a top Blue at the Southern Championships , however as Polly Singletary “ hit the big time ” with her Walking Pony SUN ’ S TORNADO , to win the Pony Stake . This little team was great in winning this class . Marsha Coombs was second on INVASION ’ S DREAM SUPREME and Lynn Doughty was third on her SETTING SUN ’ S APOLLO .
Complete results of this show are reported elsewhere in this issue .
The annual Exhibitors Breakfast was well attended this year . Host H . O . Davis was at his usual best as he greeted those attending this event . A culinary delight , the table was set buffet style with eve 17 imaginable Southern delight including fatback and grits . Everyone came early and stayed late and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship .
The other eagerly awaited social event of the annual show is the Exhibitors Breakfast and Dance held annually after the show is over on Saturday night . This year was the best ever ( and we have attended quite a few ) and was very well attended . The music was tops and the food excellent and when we left about 2:00 a . m ., they were still going strong .
Our compliments to H . O . Davis , W . O . Crawford , James E . Beasley . Jr ., Tine W . Davis and Harold E . Martin , officers of the Southern Championship Horse Show for another job well done . We enjoyed every phase of this years event and look forward to next season . Organist Jimmy Richardson provided his usual fine recital of “ Walking Horse ” melodics and Ring Master Emmitt Stone spent a good week of handling the affairs within the ring .
A note of interest was the presence of Governor-Elect Lurlene Wallace who was on hand to present the ribbon and trophies to the winner of the Championship Stake . Last year Bud got to meet Mr . Wallace .
