1966-Voice Of The Tennessee Walking Horse 1966 April Voice RS | Page 20

( Continued from page 16 )
Mr . Babb has been operating a successful training establishment in Carthage , Missouri , for the past two years . He will bring several of his best horses with him to Red Bridge when he makes the move at the beginning of April . Jim was born in Dalton , Georgia , in 1929 . His father , ED , was a well-known dealer in mules and horses in the ' 20s and ' 30s . He was introduced to the Tennessee Walking Horse early in life and the breed has always played a prominent part in his activities . He purchased his first farm in Rogers , Arkansas , and set up a small public training and breeding operation . In 1957 he set up a stable in Springfield , Missouri , but moved to Joplin , and Brownwood Stables , in 1958 . Jim moved to Jackson , Mississippi , in 1962 , prior to starting his operation in Carthage . While at Carthage Jim has enjoyed a great deal of success and his fine record of achievement no doubt played an important part in his selection as Red Bridge ’ s new manager .
1965 was a particularly good year for Jim , as he totaled over $ 65,000 in sales . Jim also has a reputation as an excellent trainer of juvenile and amateur mounts .
In discussing his new manager , Dr . Baney stated , " Everyone here at Red Bridge is extremely pleased to have acquired the services of a man of the caliber of Mr . Babb . We have been looking for some time for the man we felt would do the best job for us and are satisfied that Jim is that man . Considering the scope of our operation and the fact that it covers every phase of the Walking Horse business , we had a great need for a first-class manager as well as a top trainer . Jim comes highly recommended and we hope we can grow together .”
