Twenty-eight horses are keeping CHARLIE MUL LINS busy this winter . He has several two-year-olds which look real good and is hoping to start showing early with a trip to New York in late March .
Mr . and Mrs . JOSEPH CIGNETTO have a real pretty bay three-year-old with Charlie . Mr . and Mrs . Cignetto are also the proud owners of the well-known mare , Hi Hat ’ s Shady Lady . This mare is presently in training with DICKIE PATE .
Mr . and Mrs . JOHN CORBETT and their daughter BARBARA are well pleased with the way Sure to Go is working . Barbara did quite well last year and feels sure that this year will be even better . We will have more about Charlie ’ s horses next month .
Midnite Southern Aire is standing at Oak Lane Farm and gives my father three perfect gaits wearing only keg shoes ! This year we have our first two Southern Aire colts . Sun ’ s Ebony presented us with a sorrel stud colt , her first since her retirement from a successful show career . Moonlite Melody also has a beautiful black colt by her side .
Daddy has Hi Hat ’ s Gigi working better than ever . We might show her in the early spring shows even though she is in foal to Midnite Southern Aire . There is plenty going on up here as everyone is getting ready for the shows . I have spring fever already ! I enjoyed hearing from you all and hope that I will have more news for next month .
WALLEN STABLES
Sheridan Hall Annville , Pennsylvania
From Sioux City , Iowa , comes news of the Wallen Stables that is a pleasure to report . Trainer DICK WALLEN , who is primarily a gaited horse trainer , and a very successful one , at that , also has Tennessee Walking Horses that follow his successful pattern . Allen Peacock W , a champion owned and ridden by Dick , took up the victory path at the Denver National Livestock Society Horse Show to win both the open and stake classes . Showing true to the traditional Walking Horse form , this horse captured the High Point Award of both the ISHA and the CBWHA in his class by winning a total of 31 Blues in 1965 . Wallen ’ s Junior horse , Peacock ’ s Shadow , also appears destined for greatness following his Denver showing . Only in training a short while , this flashy horse won the Junior Class , the Amateur Class with another rider up , and came back to tie third in the big stake with DARREL Wallen up .
It is indeed a pleasure to see that both Walking Horses and Gaited Horses can be effectively trained and exhibited out of the same stable . Congratulations , Dick !
JIM BABB TAKES OVER MANAGEMENT OF RED BRIDGE STABLES
In a major move of interest to Mid-West Walking Horse enthusiasts , Dr . RALPH E . BANEY , owner of a growing Kansas City Walking Horse operation , recently announced that Mr JIM BABB would take over as General Manager and Trainer for the Red Bridge Stables on April 1 .

TARHEEL REVIEW by Elaine and Harold Thacker Rt . 5 , Winston-Salem , N . C .

One Sunday afternoon in early January we visited the Stanfield Walking Horse Stables . The manager and trainer of the Stanfield Stables in Creedmoor , North Carolina , is Mr . JERRY DERRYBERRY , of Kingston , Tennessee . In Kingston he operated his own training bam until March , 1965 , when he came to North Carolina . The barn in which Jerry trains is 250 feet long and has 22 stalls . It is owned by Mr . and Mrs . O . B . STANFIELD , Creedmoor .
One of the most talked-about yearlings at the Celebration is owned by the Stanfields . This black stallion is Sun ’ s Black Shadow . He was purchased by Mr . Stanfield at the 1965 Harlinsdale Sale . Jerry already has the colt hitting a good show lick . He will surely be the two-year-old to watch in the 1S66 season .
The Stanfields also own one of the top show stallions in the country , Talk ’ s Return . He is a full brother to Talk of the Town , a three-time World ’ s Champion . Just one of the many ribbons that Jerry and Talk received this season was at the Carolina Holiday Horse Show held Thanksgiving weekend . Jerry and Talk won the Stallion Class in an outstanding way . Talk ’ 8 Return has proven himself to be a very good sire as well as a show horse . One of his colts is Talk ’ s Shadow , a beautiful sorrel stallion . Another is Talk ’ s Lady Bird , a black two-year-old filly . Both Shadow and Lady Bird are owned by Mr . and Mrs . Stanfield . Mrs . Stanfield also owns a very nice , well-mannered four-year-old mare . This mare , known as Fascination , is a very good amateur horse .
Sun ’ s Handy Man , a mighty fine bay stallion with plenty of motion and stamina , is owned by Mr . Stanfield . Handy Man is only five . He will surely be one of the top show horses in the Carolina-Virginia Circuit in the coming season .
Mr . and Mrs . Stanfield also own the top three-yearold filly in the Carolinas today : Sun ’ s Miss America , a beautiful black roan . Miss America and Jerry won the Martinsville , Virginia , Championship Three-Year- Old Class . This fine filly also won the Junior Mare Class at the Carolina Celebration held in Greensboro , North Carolina . Sun ’ s Miss America and Jerry are ready to tear up the aged mare classes in the 1966 season .
Mr . Stanfield told us just after we arrived that he had recently purchased a very nice liver chestnut stallion from Mr . EMERY WATSON of Leaksville , North Carolina . We didn ’ t get to see him work , but judging from his powerful build and his looks , he should be great . His name is All Southern Allen - watch for him .
