Confederate Raider and Mrs. Robert Schlei cher repeated their 1964 Celebration victory in this class with a thrilling ride to the blue ribbon. Raider is one of the great old geld­ ings of the breed and he shows no signs of letting up. Magic Knight with Marjorie Gill doing the riding tied the red ribbon over a whole host of top contenders. Marjorie and her horse were not spectacular but rather they stuck right in there and performed well in all gaits. Dr W. H. Hill had The Falcon D flying high and flew away with the third spot in this 51-entry class. This big class had all the ingredients of a stake class and the riders responded with a good show, much to the delight of the crowd. This big bay stud, with Doug Wolaver in the sad­ dle, proved to be just too much for the other contenders as he swept his way to the blue ribbon. Steve Hill piloted Go Boy's Royal Heir to the number two spot in this class full of talented stallions. Steve kept his horse in gear and never faltered in tying reserve. Crowd favorite Sam Paschal on high-stepping Johnny Midnight put on a brilliant display to tie third. Sam and Johnny Midnight really brought the crowd to its feet when the judge called for the running walk, as they flew by many of the other horses with relative ease. Jan cap­ tured the top spot on two of the judges’ cards and showed her horse to perfection in taking the blue. Stephen Dunn on Sun's Gold Dust provided plenty of stiff competition for the winners in this class as he tied second in the 31-entry class. Gold Dust made a strong run at the blue and drew the crowd’s applause for a determined showing.
