The big excitement in our area was the very first All Walking Horse Show held in the state of Wisconsin on October 10 at the very beautiful layout of the ROSS DRAKE Stables . This was sponsored by the Wisconsin Walking Horse Association .
We had one rainy , miserable day after another , but someone up there must have liked us for on Sunday , the tenth , a beautiful sun and cloudless clear sky greeted us . It was a bit on the cool side , good for horses . This was a one-day show with 12 classes . Everyone was amazed at the number of horses that somehow appeared out of nowhere to fill almost every class , and the number of spectators interested in seeing " those beautiful horses go .”
The show was ably and capably planned by GEVE LOSEE of Hebron , Illinois , Show Chairman . Of infinite help to him on our first show were Mrs . MARV ORTMANN and RITA ROBERTS , two gals who put hours on behind-the-scenes work . WALLY PIEPER , WWHA President , LEO BAUM , LEW KRANIK and untold others were reasons for the show ’ s success . The Heilman Foundation for Retarded Children was the group selected to benefit from the proceeds . The Hon . Judge GARNIER came all the way from Bastrop , Louisiana , to do a fine job of judging , and he was assisted by PERCY MOSS . J . T .
LEECH of Winchester , Tennessee , was an interested observer and also showed . Mr . ROBERT McCONNELL did a good job of announcing , BOB KELLER was ringmaster , and VIC HELLMAN was gateman .
