THE MISSOURI MESSAGE by Diana Daniel (The VOICE Editor submits the following letter from Miss DIANA DANIEL to introduce her to the Walking Horse World.) Dear Mr. Spencer: I would like to use this means of telling you how delighted I am at the opportunity of writing for the VOICE. I will cover all of the Walking Horse stables in Missouri. We will be showing at some of the major shows on the Southwest Circuit this season and if you would like for me to cover any of them, I would be delighted to do so. 1 am a junior at Glendale High School in Spring- field, Missouri. I am an honor roll student, a mem ber of the Latin Club, and play on the golf team. I have been riding and showing for two years. My horse, BLUE RHYTHM, is in training at the Jim Babb Stables. We were second in the juvenile and the equitation classes at Fort Worth, Texas the first of this month and the last of last month. (ED. NOTE- February and January respectively.) We are looking forward to a good season and to making a lot of shows. Sincerely yours, DIANA DANIEL All training barnsinMissouri seem to have at least one top new pros pect, and most of them have even more. It looks as if it is going to be a good year for young horses. Many of these are ready to go and will be making their debuts at some of the earlier shows. DEBBY ADKINS, of Springfield, Missouri, will be entering the ama teur classes this year on her new five-year-old stallion, The Raven. This horse was shown successfully last year by Mrs. LACEY WEST. JOE URQUHART, Columbia, Ten nessee, was agent in the sale. He will be in training with JOHN SELF at Kerr Stable, Ava, Missouri. Also in training there is Debby’s good juvenile horse, Pleasure’s Mr. Zip, and her three-year-old filly, Barron’s Black Rena. May, 1965 A. W. LANDES, West Plains, Miss ouri, has a new Mack K three-year- old. This young horse can hit a big lick and will undoubtedly make his start at the early shows. He will be shown and trained by John Self. Yogi Berra, owned by Kerr Stable, has spent a restful winter, buthewill be raring to go soon. This good bay stallion should be a top contender in stake classes again this year. O. L. HALL. Springfield, Missouri, has recently purchased a new two- year-old. This beautiful black colt is one of Merry Midnight Air’s first colts. He has a great deal of natural ability which, combined with his good looks, should spell trouble in the two-year-old classes this year. He will be shown and trained by CHES TER BESHEARS at Hall’s High Haven Walking Stable in Springfield. C. L. FRATES is the new owner of the chestnut stallion, Mack K’s Big Shot. He is in training at the JIM BABB Stable at Carthage, Missouri. CLIFF can really team this big going horse. They will be a top contender for the amateur classes at the major shows this year. KARI.EEN LeDUC will be showing Mack K's First Lady again this year in the juvenile classes. Her new stal lion, Sun’s Go Boy Bonanza, will be shown by both Karleen and her fa ther. This horse will be outstanding in the amateur classes. Both LeDuc horses are in training at the Jim Babb Stable. PAUL HONTZ, JR., of Indepen dence, Missouri, is liable to be a threat in open classes this year with Shep’s Carbon Copy. Paul was mighty proud of his horse last year as they won many a junior class, including Missouri State Fair, and went high point junior horse of the Heart of America Walking Horse Association. Sun’s Mighty Man, owned by LOUIS CALLAHAN, will be shown again this year in some open classes by Paul Hontz, Jr. This pretty black stallion is improving with age and should be better than everthisyear. Paul will have two two-year-olds this year. Evening Sun, a fine little stallion owned by PERRY GIFFORD is one, and Shadow’s G Lou Lou, a sweet little filly owned by PAUL HONTZ, SR. is the other. Both of these young horses are coming along fine and should soon be ready to start their careers. Paul and his parents are anxiously awaiting the start of the season and are looking forward to making quite a number of show's this year. O. L. HALL of Springfield, Missouri has purchased turn new additions to his High Haven Walking Stable in Springfield. One is a three-year-old filly, Dark Shadow by Go Boy’s Shad ow, purchased from Dr. J. R. JONES in Manchester, Michigan. The other is the red sorrel gelding Magic Boss Man, purchased from PETE MOUL DER of Rolla, Missouri. Both have had excellent show records and are being trained by Chester Beshears. The loss of a stable through fire is one of the most tragic things that can happen. All of us were shocked and very much stunned when we heard that the Cedar Meadows Stable had burned to the ground February 16. Located in Springfield, Missouri, Cedar Meadows is owned by JOHN MORRIS. The stable was leased to trainer FLOYD POSNKE. It was the largest barn in Greene County. Neighbors notified the Morris fam ily of the fire. Fortunately all horses were rescued safely. Everyone sends the Morris family and Floyd their deepest r egrets for that unfortunate accident. As everyone knows, spring is just around the corner. We Missourians are anxiously awaiting the start of the shows and are expecting this to be our biggest and best season yet! By the lime a person is old enough to know better, he thinks he's smart enough not to be caught at it.
