W. H. B. & E. A. released information regarding new rules and a proposed crackdown on the mistreatment of Tennessee Walking Horses in training for show ring purposes. The release stated: "We have specific rules in regard to this matter and if you are not famil iar with the rules and penalties, we advise you to familiarize yourself with them.” NEW RULES RECENTLY PUT INTO EFFECT ARE AS FOLLOWS: "The use of any substance such as smear or graphite grease which al ters the natural color of the horse, or hides the natural condition of the pastern area, is prohibited, and Jud ges must disqualify all such entries. Substances of a transparent nature and containing no irritants of any type, such as clear Vaseline, maybe used as a protective measure only. "Further, in the final adjudication, any horse with old scars or showing visible signs of the sore lick, must be penalized.” (EDITOR’S NOTE: All licensed Judges have been instructed to en force the above new rules. We would like to point out that we feel these rules represent the feelings of the majority of ALL Walking Horse en thusiasts and that all judges, licen sed or not, will certainlywanttohelp in our increasing program to elimi nate any undue abuses to our horses in the show ring.) ATTENTION, PLEASURE HORSE LOVERS! We receive many inquiries regard ing more coverage of Pleasure Walk ing Horse activities. We are aware that this is a vastly importantphase of the Walking Horse business and deserves maximum effort on our part. If you are a member of a riding club or similar group that partici pates in pleasure horse activities, we would appreciate your letters and photographs regarding these events so that we may make Walk ing Horse lovers from coast to coast more aware of these activities.
