CAPITOL COMMENTS
“ News from the Capitol of the Walking Horse World ”
Dear Bruce ,
After much ihought and consideration , it is with great pleasure that I accept a position as Contributing Editor to the VOICE of iheTcnnessee Walking Horse . 1 have been one of its most loyal readers since its very beginning and I am honored at the opportunity to inform other readers of events and news items in the Middle Tennessee area , Capital of the Walking Horse World .
1 first became interested in horses at a very young age and became more interested asl got older . While at Middle Tennessee Slate University I met and became associated with SAM PASCHAL in Murfreesboro . and watched him guide two World ’ s Grand Champions to the roses in Shelbyville . A year ago , I transferred to the University of Tennessee to further my education inthe field of Veterinary Medicine . This past March 1 accepted a position with Mr . HARLIN HAVES at Harlinsdale Farm assisting with the breeding of Tennessee Walking Horses on this famous farm . Mr . Hayes is the finest man I have ever worked for and , of course , MIDNIGHTS UN is the greatest horse 1 have ever worked with .

The show season has really gotten off to a big start here in Middle Tennessee . The show at Manchester which occurred the weekend of the Murray Farm Sale was highlighted by the appearance of Triple Threat under the capable hands of STEVE HILL . He made an excellent show and many people were of the opinion that he was the best horse out , and better than he had ever been . He is a great horse , and he has surely beaten a lot of top horses . Our best wishes go to his new owner , Mr . JOE WRIGHT of Nacogdoches , Texas .
The Lebanon show brought even more riders and new horses out to begin the new season ... and thespectators saw what was probably the best aged mare class that will be assembled before the -Celebration . It was won by GEORGE LIVING STON on Mighty Sunbeam for the Bailey-Montgomery Stables ofShelbyville , the team that went on to win the Mare Class at the Spring Jubilee at Columbia . She is a fine show mare , and one that holds her head up high and will be there when some of the others give out !
The weekend of May 15th brought the Gallatin Horse Show and the unveiling of one of the most talkedabout horses for the big stake at the Celebration this year — Go Boy ’ s Royal Heir ridden by Steve Hill . He performed wonderfully well in every gait and never made a mistake . Many had been awaiting his appearance this season , and they were not disappointed in the least . He is a true show horse rrom the time he enters the cate , and is sure to be a top contender for that big stake . The Gallatin Show was followed by the Annual Shelbyville P-TA Horse Show which isheld atthe Celebration Grounds each season , and many come from far and near to test that one ring where they all meet sooner or later ! 11 was an exceptionally good show in front of a large crowd with a lot of good horses . Coming out on top was a horse-and-rider combination that has great hopes of doing the same thing September 4th of this year — and justifiably so — Gunsmoke ’ s Son ridden by BUDDY HUGH . Gunsmoke ’ s Son was the winner of the Junior Championship honors at last vear ’ s Celebration , and has continued this year in Celebration style , looking even better than last vear . Then on Friday , May 29 we journeyed to Tompkinsville , Kentucky to witness the 1965 debut of the Johnny Midnight - SAM PASCHAL combination which appeared in true Celebration style . I had seen him early in the spring at Sam ’ s barn , and had decided then that he was a show horse in every sense of the word . He met all my expectations at Tompkinsville as he circled the ring in the true fashion of a threegaited Walking Horse . It looks as if he is following right in his big brother ’ s footsteps - the great Sun ’ s Delight . Everyone who saw him believes that he will be one of the horses to beat come Saturday night in Shelbyville ._____________

He is so unlucky that he runs into accidents which started out to happen to somebody else .
