The National All-Breed Spring Horse Show presented by the Ohio Spotted Horse Association was held March 24-28 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds , Columbus , Ohio . Being the first show of the season and the first time in several months that the younger generation ofWalking Horse people had seen each other , it was like a family reunion . SO
I recently received a nice letter from Mr . RODNEY WHITLOCK who tells me that Mr . JOHN BRIGHT , owner of the Bendor Farms in Danville , Kentucky and his trainer , Mr . BOB McQUERRY , have some top stock for the 1965 show season . At this time Bob is working about 20 head of good Tennessee Walkers . Bendor Farms has some of the most outstanding horses in Kentucky . Mary ’ s White Lady was 1962 Kentucky Junior Champion Mare and is owned by Mr . Bright and shown in Amateur classes by Miss DEE DEE SAUF- LEY . Midnight ’ s Little Silver , an outstanding threeyear-old last year , is owned by Gay and McQuerry . Cock Robin , the top Walking Pony shown by Dee Dee Saufley last year , is now owned by Mr . Bright . Mrs . PEGGY CALDWELL has ahalf-brothertoMary ’ sWhite Lady that show . s real promise as a coming two-year-old stud . MARTHA GIBSON has her amateur mare Linda ’ s Merry Girl in training with Bob . JANICE REEVES has her top aged mare , Jan ’ s Rocking Red Bird , with Bob , and the only word for this mare is Great .
Mr . Rodney Whitlockhas anew Junior mare , Saturday Night ’ s Lady , who last year under the hands of Bob McQuerry won five firsts , six seconds and one third out of thirteen shows . Some of her most important wins were the two-year-old Championships at Harrodsburg , Kentucky ; Richmond , Greensburg , and Brodhead , Kentucky . She ’ s bigger and better now and Rodney hopes she ’ ll show that same winning style this year as he shows her himself .
In the February issue of the VOICE I stated that Go Boy ’ s Black Mischief was Reserve High Point Walking Horse of Kentucky . It was called to my attention that this award was won by Little Wilson , owned by Whitamore and Sons of Berea , Kentucky and shown by Bob McQuerry . Go Boy ’ s Black Mischief was Reserve Junior Walking Horse of Kentucky .
HUNTINGTON CHARITY HORSE SHOW ADDS GREATLY TO WEST VIRGINIA WALKING HORSE ACTIVITY
Among the many excellent shows now taking place throughout the country is the annual Cabell Huntington Charity Horse Show in Huntington , West Virginia . Mr . BEN BAGBY , president of the show , informs us that $ 8,000.00 in premiums will be offered this year . Several Walking Horse notables are participating in this show . Mr . ED CAROTHERS will judge the Walking Horse classes , and Mr . JIMMY RICHARDSON , official organist at the Celebration , will provide the music . Further particulars can be found in the " Show Dates ” section of the VOICE .
Mr . Bagby states that the show is held at Camden Park , a large amusement park on the western edge of the city on Route 60 . This park offers a permanent ring , covered bleachers and permanent stalls . A good cafeteria is provided on the park grounds with ample parking space for the exhibitors . An exhibitors ’ party will be held following the show Saturday night with nothing further scheduled until Sunday afternoon , July 25 . The annual Horse Show is sponsored by the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary and all proceeds will go to the out-patient clinic . A cordial invitation to " come see us ” is extended by Mr . Bagby .
