The American Walking Horse Association Conducts Another Successful School

W ITH THE green , rolling hills of West Virginia forming a colorful backdrop , the 14th annual Walking Horse School was conducted by the American Walking Horse Association on May 6th , 7th , and 8th .

Proving to be a real asset , the large indoor arena of the Sterling Farms at Reedsville kept the crowd dry when a heavy thunderstorm came up during the Saturday afternoon session .
Mr . Ruby , owner of the Sterling Farms , did everything possible to make the American Walking Horse Association members feel at home . His exhibitors party on Saturday evening at the Arthurdale Inn was something to write home about .
With Mr . Ruby ’ s cooperation the Walking Horse Division was a Class B American Horse Shows Association division . There were eight classes in the show and all were well filled . Fourteen horses answered the call in the Amateur Stake which was won by Mr . Ceburn Lee of Oaks Comers , New York .
Championship Stake class was really a tough one for the judges with everyone riding for the money . Sun ' s Spring Queen owned by E . Carl Hengen of Gainesville , Virginia , took the tricolor .
A new horse brought out at the show had all the smart boys taking a second look . Owned by the Quickee Tree Stables and named Our Citation , this black stud should develop into a

Judging the show were H . Karl Yenser of Jessup , Maryland , Miss Dorothy Evans of Lititz , Pennsylvania , and Mr . Herman Kimsey of Washington , D . C .
The American Walking Horse Association held its annual meeting and election of officers on Saturday . Mr . E . Carl Hengen of Gainesville , Virginia was elected President , Mr . Ceburn Lee , Dr . H . Fishkin and Mr . Alan Stevenson were elected Vice Presidents . Mrs . Priscilla Marble was re-elected to the office of Secretary- Treasurer and Mr . H . Karl Yenser was re-elected Chairman of the Board of Directors .
People attending the School came from a ten-state area , and highlighting this year ’ s School was an address by The Honorable Jennings Randolf , United States Senator of West Virginia . The Early Bird Reception at the home of Mr . and Mrs . John Solomon of Morgantown , the exhibition of B . Major Wilson , World Champion Walking Horse , and the excellent facilities of the Sterling Farms , all , combined to rate the school a howling success .
Exhibitors of Walking Horses at this show are to be commended for their observance of the current AHSA rules . All horses shown met the standards set for Walking Horses by the American Horse Shows Association .
