( Continued from page 4 )
From Etowah , DUDE went to Summerville , Kentucky to work with T . G . CHANEY and later moved back to Oak Ridge and opened a public stable . At this time he worked at the University of Tennessee Research Laboratory participating in animal surgery .
DUDE and his lovely wife , the former ANITA JOHN SON of Concord , Tennessee , were married in 1962 . She has an avid interest in the horse business and , like most trainers ’ wives , helps whenever possible . Right after he was ' married , DUDE went to work for the E . C . NICHOLS Stable in Knoxville . After a year of hard work there , he moved to one of the " hotbeds ” of the Walking Horse business , North Carolina , to work for Mr . F . M . BLOUNT in Bethel . It was here that his son TOMMY , now 16 months old , was born .
As opportunity presents itself , most young men do not hesitate to act . and young DUDE Crowder was soon operating his own public stable in North Carolina . This takes a lot of courage for such a young man , but he was obviously successful — so successful , in fact , that opportunity again presented itself and as of July 1 , this outstanding young trainer has been maintained as the full-time professional trainer of the J . B . J . Stables of Mr . J . B . SAPP , JR ., of Martinsville , Va .
Mr . Sapp , who has been in the Walking Horse business for some years , is ready and willing to make his one of the outstanding stables in the country . At present they have fifteen horses in training and are constructing new stables to accommodate the many others they they have promised . Among the horses that DUDE was able to bring with him was the one that he has trained for a " comeback ” — Greenback Moneytree . With this horse topping off the stable , DUDE has his work cut out for him to build a stable of show horses .
When discussing the current status of the Walking Horse business , DUDE states that he personally is a firm believer in Amateur and Juvenile horses in a stable . He feels that the people interested in this level of activity comprise the backbone of the Show Horse business . With a good string of Amateur and Juvenile horses , DUDE feels that a professional trainer can move enough stock , both buying and selling , to back up his personal training efforts and the horses that he will show . We feel that Charles DUDE Crowder is representative of the many young men now getting into the Walking Horse business . Those who know him well and have followed his career say that he has come a long way in a short time and that with a few years under his belt he should become one of the truly outstanding Professional Trainers . Our best to him in the future !

When completed , there will be a total of 200 apartments with every four to six units having a swimming pool . This complex will be the finest horse facility in the Southwest and it is hoped that it will be the forerunner of more planned communities with children and recreation the main reason for existence . Arizona Stables Development Company , the firm responsible for the construction , is owned by YALE SIMINOFF , owner of Arizona Stables ; Mr . STANLEY EARP , retired mortgage banker from Detroit ; and HARRY B . CLOW , vice president of Ramtec Inc .
With the increased interest in the Tennessee Walking Horse throughout the west , it is assured that a phase of this tremendous undertaking will include our breed . More information on this development will be forthcoming as the complex nears completion .
In the choice of a horse and a wife , a man must please himself , ignoring the opinion and advice of friends .
