The " top o ’ the mornin ’ to you ,” and the remainder of the day also ! Be it shamrocks or clover , bluegrass or alfalfa , anything green looks good after the snows of winter . And how the horses love to have their feet firmly on the ground once more ! After months of carefully skating on ice and snow , " heels in the air ” is the " gait of the day !”
To many , the winter months were a blessing in disguise , a time when shows were less numerous and concentrated work could be done on horses in training . And now the results are showing , or are ready to show .
Mr . DAL HOPE , who formerly trained for Mrs . D . G . EGGERMAN , has opened a public training stable near Bothell , Washington . He has in training for Mrs . Eggerman Trouble ’ s Image , a fouryear-old buckskin gelding sired by Mr . Trouble . Dal has a lot of faith in this youngster , and feels that he will be one of the top junior horses on the West Coast . He has a terrific back end , and the

Mr . and Mrs . EPHRIAM HAAS and Dal Hope own a three-year-old chestnut gelding , with flaxen mane and tail , of Last Chance breeding . This youngster is now hitting a show lick , and should offer stiff competition in junior classes .
Mr . and Mrs . BOB BENNETT of Seattle have an exceptionally flashy three-year-old colt sired by Midnight Squawman in training with Dal . This colt is a bright chestnut with four whites , a strip in his face , and mixed mane and tail . Add to this sharp ears , pop eyes , and show horse ways , and you have something to look at .
Dr . L . PATRICELLI of Renton , Washington is justifiably proud of a chestnut mare he has in training with Mr . Hope . The mare not only has good conformation , but also has the eye-catching white mane and tail which is whipped cream on the cake . In addition to good looks , she has a terrific reaching front end with lots of head motion , and a back end that " slips and slides with every stride .”
Miss LOUISE EGGELSTON of Bellevue , Washington has leased Squawman ’ s Firefly which Dal showed so successfully as a junior horse . This combination is certain to provide good competition in ladies ’ and amateur classes .
BILL FARNUM of Bellevue , Washington will show his Sun ’ s Headman this season . Last fall Bill really found the key to Headman and placed Reserve Champion at the Shrine Show . Now that Bill has found that key , he isn ’ t about to lose it . " Blue ” is the color he ’ s looking for in ribbons this year .
The WYMAN family of Maple Valley , Washington have a nice three-year-old colt that Dal is starting . Mr . HERB SHORT of Maple Valley will stand his stallion , Knight of Knight ’ s Ace , this season at Dal Hope ’ s stable . This stallion is a brilliant chestnut with flaxen mane and tail , and a strip in his face . He is sired by Knight of Knights by Midnight Sun , and his dam is Romeo ’ s Bell Brown by Romeo Allen by Last Chance . Mr . and Mrs . LEO KNIGHT ofKent , Washington will have their stallion Double Namron in training here also . This stallion is sired by April Fool R by Blue Namron , out of Blue Sumner by Blue Namron , by Merry Boy . He has excellent conformation , with an exceptionally long neck and beautiful head . Both of these stallions will be bred to only a few select mares , as both will be showing .
Dal Hope has made an outstanding record up and down the Pacific Coast while training for Mrs . Eggerman . While making this fine record with horses and riders under his tutelage , he has demonstrated his ability and eagerness to work harmoniously with individuals and groups for the general good of the horse business . In this he is most fortunate to have the help of his wife who , in addition to being charming , has exceptional artistic ability . Both she and Dal have made myriads of friends , all of whom will wish them success with their new stable .
The JOE BILES Stables have been going in high gear all winter long . His stallion Stormy Midnight ; the beautiful grey stallion he purchased recently in Tennessee ( by Merry Go Boy out of a Wilson Allen mare ); and a Setting Sun stallion ( chestnut with light mane and tail ) will be shown as well as used for breeding . — Oh yes ! Last but not least , a grandson of Midnight Mack K is here , too . In addition , Joe has juniors sticking out his ears , some mighty good ones , and more waiting to come . Walking Horse interest is gaining momentum and spreading like wildfire !
CHARLES COURT at The Dalles , Oregon has been training horses in his indoor ring while the snow came down in sheets outside . He brought home three Northwest Championships for Dr . and Mrs . HOWARD ROBERTS - The Flying Dollar , Spitfire , and Reba Genius Star . This winter , Dollar ’ s toe has been cut back , and he has been enjoying a few months of well-earned rest . Go Midnight Boy , owned by Dr . and Mrs . Roberts also , walked away with the Championship in the Junior Class at the Cow Palace .
