1964-Voice Of The Tennessee Walking Horse 1964 September Voice | Page 25

The breeding season is over now and soon show time will be in the past here . The Murray Sale will be in October , Montgomery Horse Show in November , yearling colts will be put in training this fall and winter and new foals will be arriving in January . The breeders are looking for colts as perfect as the little GO BOY filly that won the weanling championship at the Celebration . We all hope we can have that kind of colt some day . One of the breeding farms in our area went out of business Sept . 10th , owned by James E . Sherman . Mr . Sherman sold at auction the farm , show horses , van and broodmares with colts — 35 head in all . However , we lose one and gain a few more . Red Alexander has just moved into a new training barn on highway 43 about 10 miles northeast of Florence . He now has about 7 horses to work and room for that many more . I believe Red has been training horses in Tennessee during his spare time for a number of years and now plans to train full time .
Gordie Pounders of Russellville has a small horse business of 5 good broodmares with colts . He has a line bred RED WARRIOR mare that is bred to MISTER PIDDLEY , Sam Hall ’ s amateur mount . There is a grey mare , by MERRY JIM , who was by MERRY BOY , that has a black filly colt by EVENING SUN and is bred back to him . Gordie has a mare by MERRY BOY ’ S KNOCKOUT that has a black filly colt by STATELY GO BOY and a JOLIES GO BOY mare with an EVENING SUN colt , also black . He has a red roan filly , yearling , by ANOTHER SUN DUST out of the grey MERRY JIM mare that he plans to keep for a broodmare . I believe he has a SUN DUST filly entered in the Murray Sale in October .
If any of you have some news or information for me I would appreciate a card or letter at Route 3 , Killen , Alabama . Now that all the activity of the year is beginning to get slow I will be able to get around to visit .
KALAMAZOO WALKING HORSE EXHIBITOR WINS SIX BLUES IN ONE SHOW
The VOICE would like to make note of an error in reporting on the Little Celebration Horse Show held July 10 in Kalamazoo . Mrs . Russell Hayner of Kalamazoo approached your editor while attending the Celebration and expressed a personal note of dissatisfaction for which we were in complete agreement . We had somehow omitted the pleasure horse and lead-line activities of the Little Celebration in which Mrs . Hayner ( Harriet ) had made quite a record for herself . She won the Yearling Filly Class and the Championship Yearling Class with GO BOY ’ S SUN SILLHOUETTE and both the Two Year Old Model Stud Class and the Championship TWH Model Class with GO BOY ’ S SUNLINER HH . She was also first on PLAY TIME MERRY MAUGRAY in the Pleasure Walking Horse Over 40 Class and won the Walking Horse Costume Class riding PRELUDE MERRY MOON B . We would like to point out that this indeed was an oversight on our part and we are very pleased to report the victories of Mrs . Hayner and wish her much success in the future . We appreciate the efforts of all Walking Horse lovers in areas such as Michigan where the breed needs promotion and assistance in order to grow . We are glad to help !
