bration still ringing in our ears and
the visions of record breaking crowds,
more beautiful horses, fast-moving auc­
tions, and more exciting shows still in
our minds and the unspoken desire of
all of us to one-dav own a PERFEC­
TION’S CARBON COPY, a GUN-
SMOKE'S SON or a SETTING SUN’S
APOLLO ... let us turn back a quar­
ter of a century and observe the events
surrounding the “Big Show" as it was
reported in the Nashville Banner on
Monday, September 11, 1939. Let us
pause for a moment to consider the
additional attraction of the county fair
atmosphere that surrounded the show
