after a mare was knocked down for $ 285 , it was discovered that she had a windpuff on one ankle . She was put up again for resale and the crowd laughed heartily when she brought $ 15 more .
Among the older residents of the county were heard expressions of regret that the best horses were going to other states where the money was . Many of these native sons and daughters of Marshall and Bedford Counties knew personally every ancestor in the sale horses ’ pedigrees . Sale Success The sale was a success from every standpoint . Phelps Spencer of Louisville , editor of The National Horseman , said it was the best of all the spring horse sales anywhere . The Tennessee Walking Horse is outselling the American Saddle animal and has been for several years if sale averages are any indication .”

Walking Horses West by VIRGINIA LAMB
The VOICE welcomes back Virginia Lamb , one of our earliest correspondents . During her “ leave of absence ,” Virginia has increased her family by giving birth to a ten-pound baby girl . We congratulate Virginia and Ted Lamb and extend our best wishes to their entire family .
Virginia Lamb is doing much to promote the Tennessee Walking Horse in California and prepares very fine reports on activities in her area . We appreciate her work , and that of all our loyal and helpful correspondents . Without their efforts the VOICE would be only a whisper . — The Editors .
A FIRST FOR CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR HORSE SHOW
The California State Fair Horse Show , being held this year , June 13-21 , is having a FIRST . For the first time in State Fair history , there will be pleasure classes , juvenile and amateur classes , and halter classes never before held . These changes are being made because of the quick action of the Show Chairman of the Northern California Tennessee Walking Horse Association and the support of the NCTWHA as a whole . Never before have pleasure classes for the Walking Horse been held at the Fair . Last year , there were only nine classes , but this year there will be twenty-one . This is quite an increase in only one year . It is also an important development for Walking Horses and their riders . The premium list and entry blanks can be obtained by writing to : CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR , Horse Show Division , Broadway at Stockton Boulevard , Sacramento , California . The classes and days are as follows : Saturday , June 13 ( evening ), Stud & Gelding ; Sunday , June 14 ( evening ), Mare Stake ; Monday , June 15 ( afternoon ); Equitation , Monday 15 , ( evening ), Two - year - old class ; Tuesday , June 16 ( afternoon ), Juvenile Riders , seventeen and under ; Tuesday , June 16 ( evening ), Amateur ; Wednesday , June 17 ( afternoon ), English Pleasure ; Thursday , June 18 , ( morning ), colts , under halter , Broodmares , Stallions , Get of Sire , Produce of Dam , Registration papers must be present with entry in these ten classes ; Thursday , June 18 ( evening ), Junior Horses , four and under ; Friday , June 19 ( evening ), Ladies to Ride ; Sunday , June 21 ( evening ), Championship Stake . I personally urge all of you Walking Horse owners with pleasure , halter , or show horses to get behind us at the State Fair and enter your animals without hesistation . This is one of the most important opportunities we have yet been given . We absolutely must be backed up by ALL OF YOU ! These classes must be filled in order to keep them at the Fair and to have a bigger and better show next year . This has already been guaranteed , providing we have a good showing of horses and riders this year . I cannot stress the importance of this enough , it is up to you , now .

Ever since the “ VOICE ” came into being , I have received letters from all over the United States , including foreign countries . Many of these letters from from people requesting help , sometimes help which I am unable to give , but help which I am sure one or more readers of the “ VOICE ” may be able to give . One such letter is from Vi Leeper , Route 2 , Box 49A , Spokane , Washington , who asks for any information she can get about her 19 year old mare , LIT TLE EVA by MIDNIGHT ALLEN and out of UNA STARNES ( dam of the renowned CITY GIRL ). Anyone with any knowledge at all of this mare please forward to Mrs . Leeper .
