ers ! Two months later on a visit to the stables we bought a fivemonth-old sorrel roan colt , just because we liked him . He is ROAN ALLEN on both sides , sired by BRANTLEY ’ S ROAN ALLEN II . Six months later an adorable sixmonth-old filly joined the others . Sired by DOUGHBOY ’ S JEZE- BEAU , she is out of a line-bred WILSON ’ S ALLEN mare .
We have been most impressed by the gentleness and good disposition of the Walking Hors :: breed , in addition to the beautiful animal with the smooth gait . They are admired by all who see them . An testimonial to the saying . “ Ride one today , you ’ ll want one tomorrow ” is a 15-year-old girl who boards her part Arabian mare with us . She has been a confirmed future owner ever since her first ride on one last summer .
HYDRAULIC AUTOMATIC WALKER INTRODUCED FOR PROFESSIONAL STABLE USE
The PIEPER ’ S PARADER , a heavy-duty automatic walker engineered specifically for stable use has been introduced by Mr . W . E . Pieper of Milwaukee , Wisconsin . In discussing the PIEPER ’ S PARA DER with the VOICE EDITOR , Mr . Pieper stated that he had been aware of the need for a device of this nature for some years and had enlisted the services of several en gineers in the Milwaukee area to
design one to his specifications . An extensive survey conducted by the group indicated that there were many stables that were currently using such devices but that they were all hand made and were constructed from spare parts . The biggest problem with those in operation was break-down . His findings indicated that the majority of automatic walkers in use were well constructed but were not designed to withstand the constant stress and strain that was subjected to them by horses . He found that moving parts , such as gears , pullies , drive shafts , etc ., were constantly breaking and required periodic repairs . On discussing this problem with his engineers it was decided to try hydraulic operation , the one method that would eliminate the majority of cause of breakdown . It proved excellent for this type of machine and the PIE- PER ’ S PARADER became a reality .
The PARADER has several outstanding features that are unique . It is adaptable to 110 Volt , 220 Volt . Battery or Gasoline Engine
operation . The PARADER can be reversed to eliminate the chance of horses becoming “ sour ” by constantly going the same way on the walker . “ Quick coupling ” lines are changed manually to reverse the machine , eliminating the chance of accidentally reversing the PARADER while horses are walking . The PARADER will operate at variable speeds simply by setting the control at the desired speed . It is available in four horse and six horse ( Model B ) models .
Mr . Pieper states that shipping such a device is always a problem but that they have devised a me-
