the HI LINE from the Deep SOUTH

By Billy Joe Ann Estess Box 222 , Kentwood , Louisiana
Hi !
You ’ ve no doubt heard the old song , “ I ’ m Movin ’ On ,” well it seems like that ’ s all we ’ ve done lately — with shows galore , and getting new shows started and helping promote shows to come , gracious what a tail-spin we stay in . In our part of the country as in so many others , there are a great many established shows , but we are always trying to get new ones and of course making better ones of those we already have .
Mrs . Virginia Killingsworth , a real fire-ball of a lady , came to see me the other night , and we discussed plans for a Youth Show in conjunction with the very large Washington Parish Fair held annually in Franklinton , Louisiana . October 7th is the tenative date set for the show and if enough youngsters participate , the Fair plans something bigger next year . I ’ m sure they won ’ t be disappointed in youngsters around here ’ cause they really turn out well in all Juvenile Classes .
Dixie Springs Stables owned by Lester Carruth of Dixie Springs , Mississippi is in the process of completing his new barn and training facilities . L . L . “ Boo ” Greer , his very capable manager and trainer is real proud of the new plant and justly so . It ’ s in a lovely spot and right on Highway 51 , mainstream of all traffic to the major “ Horse places ” in ’ this vicinity . Lou Carruth Malta , daughter of the Lester Carruths , has been doing real well on her MR . DELISH this year . Lou is so pretty and sweet you just can ’ t help liking her , and her parents are one of the friendliest couples you ’ d ever want to meet . We were invited to the big Bar B Que they had after the recent McComb Show ( honoring the completion of the new barn ) but due to prior plans we were unable to go . Bet they had a ball , though !
In spite of very adverse weather conditions the Tylertown and McComb , Mississippi shows went on as scheduled and were very good ones indeed . These shows are the ones we are always interested in , and you really can ’ t blame us as they are real close by and we usually have a little more time to spend with house guests and in general feel like hosts . This I really enjoy . I was so proud of our FROSTY SHADOW winning the Walking Colt Class . We are so very proud of her and like I said before , many times , the colts are my pride and joy . I guess that ’ s why I get so enthused over the big colt classes at the Celebration and especially the Dam and Foal Class , which to me is the most beautiful class of the entire show . Getting back to our McComb Show I would like to have had many pictures to submit , but the weather only permitted a few in the afternoon .
