Benson, U S A F, is in immediate and urgent need of expert advice. He reports that since May he and his family have been suffering from Walking Horse fever “in its most dangerous stage and in order to reduce it plan to start a breeding operation of some forty to fifty mares with a relatively small training effort alongside (fifteen horses). We plan to set up shop in Tennessee, somewhere within fifty miles of Nashville (or in any warm climate in the vicinity of an Air Force base or permanent military establishment).” Lt. Colonel Benson requests VOICE readers to assist him in his hour of need by answering these pertinent questions: 1. What pasture acreage would be necessary? 2. Where can I get advice or plans on the various types of stables; size of stalls; ideal con struction materials for roof, walls, stall floors, etc.; ventilation; ar rangement of tack room, feed room, office and stalls and so forth? 3. Which real estate agents in Tennessee would be most know ledgeable and helpful? 4. Is there planning information available on the costs of raising horses? 5. What basic books would you suggest on the general subject? 6. Would you advise owning your own studs or using others? (Money is a limitation.) 7. Where can I get back issues of the Blue Ribbon? 8.
