"A CHRISTMAS REQUEST" The followng poetic contribution comes to us from a man most quali fied to state for us many different aspects of our wonderful horse kingdom. Here he expresses the in ner thoughts of a past show horse long put out to pasture and con tent on grazing the rest of her life. Dr. J. P. Gardner, DVM, of King ston, Ohio, receives our congratu lations on this effort. We appre- his interest in sharing his thoughts with us at this time. The EDITORS “I once was The Queen of The Tanbark, I once was The Toast of The Crowd, All the others I’d pass, in that Championship Class, Fifedmit that I felt mighty proud. When the work-outs were over, and the winner was named, I was called to that circle, reserved for the famed, Was given a trophy and ribbon of blue, Was robed in a blanket quite brilliant and new. My life, my surroundings, were always serene, My stall was immaculate, and I was groomed clean, But now that is all just a thing of the past,— The other mares warned me, such things wouldn’t last, That fame was quite fickle, and mighty few thanks, Would I get when I entered the brood-mare ranks. Although I am living a life of pure ease, In clover and timothy up to my knees, I long for the past, and I have one regret, I miss the attention I once use to get. Am I asking too much, to be groomed just once more, Pick the burrs from my tail, from my feet the manure, Let me wear that show-blanket, as I once used to do, Then I will believe that I’ve had Christmas too. 8 THE BAILEY'S HAVE TWIN DAUGHTERS Mr. and Mrs. William Curtis Bailey announce the birth of twin daughters, Catherine Elise and Carol Aldrich, on Friday, November 13, 1964, at St. Dominic Hospital.
