ROOSTER Walking Pony and sister Laura , ten vears old , who rides MIDNIGHT PRINCE JOHN , At present , they are standing , and showing sometimes , GO BOY ’ S DIPLOMAT , a five year old stallion with top blood lines . Also present in the stable activities are Dr . and Mrs . Ben Buford , also of Dallas , whose 13 year old daughter Julie rides SAND MAN ' S BLACK MAGIC in juvenile classes . They have been in the Walking Horse business for two years and enjoy it very much . Besides their show stock , the Bayoud ' s have some brood mares and colts , outstanding among which is MIDNIGHT STAR , an excellent mare in foal to TRI PLE THREAT , and a young black fillv named TRIPLE JET that is a MIDNIGHT SUN — MERRY GO BOY cross . It is obvious from the stock now representing the Bavoud Farm Stables , that we will hear more and more from these folks . P . S .: We had a note regarding their trainer , whom I understand to be a most interesting and qualified young English Woman , but somewhere between “ here and there ” it was misplaced . We ’ re sorry Doctor !
HUGH & NORMA HESTER
While at the recent Florence , Alabama Horse Show we stopped to talk with Hugh Hester of Red Bay , Alabama and his good friend Mr . Putnam . Much enthusiasm was being generated around the ring about NORMA ' S DELINA GIRL , owned by Hugh ’ s daughter Norma . This is a two year old filly with class that reflects her deep Walking Horse breeding . She is a light sorrel ( better known to some as Strawberry Roan ) and is one of the most exhibited and talked-about two year old fillies in the ring . She has been shown consistantly during the 1964 season and has her share of blues including the Florence Shrine Show . Congratulations Hugh and Norma .
JACK MOORMAN STABLES
Reaching full stride as the show season reaches its peak is the Jack Moorman Stables of Meridian , Mississippi . Prime accomplishment for the current season was the winning of the Championship Stake Class at the Pin Oak Show by
SPUR S COMMANDER with Jack in the saddle . The big deep sorrel stud put on a flawless performance for Rvan-McArthur Chevrolet Company , beating some of the best going . COMMANDER also won the Beaumont , Texas , Walking Horse Championship .
At present , Jack has 20 horses in training and it is said that “ horse for horse ” he has some of the best stock in the country . PRIDE OF SPRING , a sorrel gelding rode by Gayden Schrock won his class at the Poplarville Show and tied high at Pin Oak . He was Southern Champion in his class at the 1963 Montgomery Show , also . SPUR ’ S MERRY MAN , a juvenile horse that is hard to beat with Jerry Ryan in the saddle is 2nd in point ratings in the Southwest Circuit for the 1964 season . They are having a good year . Frank Brown is reported to be getting along fine with his aged gelding GO BOY ’ S IMAGE , which he shows as an amateur horse and PEAK OF PER FECTION , a five year old red sorrel stud which was purchased at the Holloway Sale by Ryan-Mc- Arthur Chevrolet Company , is coming along in fine fashion . Jack says that this horse has the potential of becoming a real champion .
Wallace Gunn has a real good mare in training that won her class at Beaumont , Texas and New Orleans . SUNBEAM ’ S PRODUCER is a big mare , standing sixteen hands , and is seven years old . She should be a real threat for other top honors in 1964 . THE EXCAVATOR , an aged gelding owned by Ralph Logue of New Orleans is also doing a commendable job this year . The big roan was second in Meridian and always a makes a bid for top honors .
EDDIE KILDAY STABLES
Walking Horse activity in Greenville . Tennessee is picking up due to the efforts of Eddie Kilday of Baileyton , Tennessee . Eddie has a public stable set up there 15 miles north of Greenville , with several good horses in the making . Our correspondence with Eddie reports he has 19 horses in training and is heading to the Celebration with several . Heading the list of the Kilday Stables is KING OF WINS . This chestnut sorrel two year old stallion has a good record so far with seven wins and one reserve . He is a son of SUN ’ S ELDORADO , and is owned by Tommy Cooter of Baileyton , who has shown him to one blue himself this year . Eddie has a Junior horse he is proud of in SUN ’ S MISSLE , owned by Mr . and Mrs . Howard Raider of Morristown , Tennessee , and a good mare named MELISSA ’ S LIL PENNY , owned by Mr . Robert Lane of Rogersville , Tennessee . PANOLA ROSE , another mare with top prospects is owned by Mr . Byron Rogers is also making excellent progress . Eddie recently handled the sale of MACK K ’ S TIMEKEEPER , a beautiful , stake horse caliber stallion to Hidden Springs Farm in Vera Cruz , Pennsylvania . Mr . Rogers was the former owner . We will probably hear more about the Eddie Kilday Stables in the future .
GEORGE WITT STABLES by Judy Byers
I turned in at the George Witt Stables just off Highway 127 , North of Athens , Alabama , early one Saturday morning and found him hard at work . He works 21 horses every day and I suppose leading the list would be GO BOYS BLACK DANDY , owned by Dr . B . S . Henry of Russellville , Ala . Dandy has been having shoe trouble for the past two months , being unable to hold a shoe because the walls of the feet crumble . However , with the help of a Huntsville scientist and a special formula to hold shoes without nails Dandy will be ready to go to the Celebration this year .
SPURS BIG GLORY , owned by Dr . Marshall Carrier and W . O . Crawford , despite being worked for only a few months by George Witt , shows promise of making a top stake horse for the Celebration . It is expected that this fine Chestnut horse will be shown by Sonny Parsons .
SUN ’ S MOON MIST , full sister to MIDNIGHT MOON GLOW , shall make the trip to the Celebration with a record of only one loss
