HORSE BUSINESS ( Coni ' d .)
APPOINTMENTS
Should be becoming and appropriate . Fit demands that clothes fit you and you alone . Moderate fullness is preferable to too snug a fit . TIES AND COLLARS should stay in place . Straps should always be used on jodphurs . Shoes must be polished and in good condition . Hair must be neat and carefully groomed . Be dressed in time to assure an attractive , neat appearance .
MEN — Correct attire for exhibiting the Tennessee Walking Horse is essential . In addition to those suggestions already mentioned , it would be well to point out that Semi-Formal attire is always correct . Gentlemen should wear the traditional riding coat and Kentucky-type Jodphurs and a hat . A boutonniere , either flower or feathered type , is permissable .
WOMEN — The basic attire for women exhibitors is similar to that prescribed for gentlemen , however , as usual we find a creative flair present in the appointments , colors and accessories of our Lady Amateurs . Two excellent examples of the “ woman ’ s touch ” in riding apparel are found in the “ riding habits ” of Miss Raye Graham of Huntsville , Alabama and Mrs . Shirley Schliecher of Gary , Indiana , two well known Women ’ s Amateur Walking Horse exhibitors .
MRS . SHIRLEY SCHLIECHER — One of the most charming and well liked Lady Amateur riders of the Walking Horse World . . . Mrs . Schliecher has selected an ensemble that will blend well with her horse — CONFEDERATE RAIDER . She shows in a royal blue velvet coat with light blue lapels which is lined in light blue satin . Her jodphurs are midnight blue formal-type cut which are set off by black boots . Highlight of the entire habit is a wesgate tie tipped with a horse shoe diamond stick pin .
MISS RAYE GRAHAM — This popular Miss has chosen for her habit a combination of gold and black to accent her horse — SUN ’ S PAPER DOLL . She wears the traditional black Kentucky jodphur pants with black boots and tops the suit off with a gold and white brocade coat with gold lapels and white satin lining . The coat is set off by interwoven gold metallic threads that add a glittering sheen to the material . Accenting her white shirt is a black tie that adds the finishing touch to a well chosen ensemble .
