"FROM EAST TENNESSEE1 The Celebration, this year, will be even bigger and better than ever before. In our East Tennessee area alone the horses, trainers, and riders have all improved 100% since last year. The competition will be hard and the prizes large. But not everyone can be a winner although everyone may well de serve the blue ribbon. The stables in our association are really working hard and turn ing out the true finished Walker For instance, Evans Stables, here in Athens, is enjoying their best season. This picturesque stable is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Owen Fulien and is located on Clear water Road. AUGUST, 1964 Southbrook Stables, owned by Mr. E. C. Nichols has really been turning out some nice horses un der their new trainer, Don Gallo way. Don has recently returned to East Tennessee and we all expect great things from him. Carrying Southbrook colors proudly in the Juvenile class is Miss Debby Polard of Knoxville. Debby enchants the ring when she enters the ring in her gold metallic coat atop her well-known mare, DREAM AT MIDNIGHT. This team has proved practically im possible to beat for the last 3 years. Carol Koella, also riding for Southbrook and a new member of the horse world, has been doing very well on her own horse, LIT TLE MAN’S TREASURE. Things are really hopping with preparation for the Celebration be ing made; especially at Wink Groo ver Stables in Etowah, Tennessee. Wink has three fine stake horses. They are MERRY MOTION MA KER, owned by Hank Sheeley of Texas, a black stallion owned by Spencer Walker of Fitzgerald, Georgia, and MACK K’S 45 owned by Robinwood Stables in Kings port. Wink has been well blessed with Junior horses this season. JET’S ROCKET, 3 year old filly owned by Jerry Armstrong of Englewood. This is a real nice 2 year old bay stallion. Also, Wink has a very good 2 year old mare owned by Mack Watts. Jerry Armstrong owns a beau tiful bay mare by the name of COLONEL’S LOVE LADY. She really works well. Wink also trains 3 juvenile horses: ALLEN’S BIG SHOT owned and ridden by Chuckv Is bell, HIGH HOPE owned by Ca mille Whittle, and JET’S BLUE SUN, owned and ridden by yours truly. Halacre Farms in Sweetwater, Tennessee, is really walking away with the blue ribbons this year. 51
